Looks a longer term prospect given his hurdling introduction at Chepstow where he was always behind and jumped very carefully. One to watch rather than support on his second start.
Placed in a couple of Irish point-to-points, he offered something to work on from his hurdles debut where he finished in midfield over 2mf at Uttoxeter on soft ground. Conditions/trip should suit, wouldn't surprise to see him do better now.

Took second sole Irish point-to-point start, narrowly beaten having pulled well clear with the winner. Made an encouraging start to his career in an Ascot bumper (finished midfield); looks a stayer, should be suited by this trip on hurdles debut.

Corrany29
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: James Bowen| T: N J Henderson
7/1
One of the more experienced runners in the field he showed some fair form in bumpers before running well below the level he had shown in that sphere on hurdles debut. Looked in need of the experience (jumped poorly); should do better.

Offered something to work on when making his bumper debut but judged on his first hurdles start, he's the type that will need more time to develop. Failed to beat anything home last time he'll need to jump better this time around to make an impact.

Modest form at best in Irish point-to-points, beaten 23L into fourth on his last start in that sphere. Now makes his Rules debut over hurdles; likely to need this and one of he lesser lights in the contest.

Hometown Boy17

5/2
Successful on his only Irish point-to-point start he's yet to really blossom under Rules but has shown promise in a bumper and over hurdles last time on debut. Third to a couple of well fancied sorts then, he should show more and enjoy this trip.

Placed in all three of his bumpers last season the step up in trip going hurdling for the first time showed him to much better effect. Finished strongly to take second after being slightly hampered; arrives with sound claims for an in-form yard.

Pedigree suggests that he'll need time and a test of stamina to be seen at his best with his last outing over hurdles (second overall) suggesting he's being brought along slowly. Well beaten when last seen, this outing will be further education.

A likely winner when falling at the last in his sole Irish point-to-point he was well found in the market for his bumper debut at Worcester but failed to meet those expectations. Hard to excuse the run there, may well be capable of better this time.

Well held in a Warwick bumper on her debut she showed very little and was like her stable struggling from some way out. Would need to make a major step forward to be competitive on her hurdling debut and that's an unlikely scenario.

Happy News32
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-5| J: Lee Edwards| T: J Groucott
50/1
Down the field in a pair of bumpers earlier in the year she showed only a touch more ability when reappearing after a break to make her hurdling debut over C&D. Finished last having gone off a 100-1 chance; not much more expected here.

Forecasts

Hurricane Harvey (5/6), Hometown Boy (5/2), Corrany (7/1), Waitonit (10/1), Commit Or Quit (14/1), Clondaw Pretender (16/1), Butler's Brief (50/1), Happy News (50/1), Seymour Sox (100/1), Black Kalarosa (100/1), Fenrir Binding (100/1), Fun De Nuit (100/1)

Verdict

Two of these posted very solid efforts on their hurdling debuts last time with HURRICANE HARVEY producing the most taking of those two performances, overcoming some trouble three out to finish a worthy second, this trip will play to his strengths with his stable remaining in red-hot form. He will face a worthy opponent in Hometown Boy whose debut effort over hurdles was a valiant one with Corrany and Clondaw Pretender having also turned some fair efforts so far with better expected. Commit Or Quit is another to note on his hurdling debut having made an encouraging start in an Ascot bumper whilst it’s far too soon to write off Waitonit after his flop at Worcester now he switches to hurdles.
  1. Hurricane Harvey
  2. Commit Or Quit
  3. Hometown Boy
