Regressed since winning a Chelmsford (5f; standard) novice race in September, finishing well-beaten in low-grade handicaps the last twice. Others look open to more improvement, and he is ruled out with confidence.

Bit more exposed than most, and is potentially vulnerable to improvers. However, there is no knocking her form which is rock solid. As shown when she was third in a competitive handicap at Nottingham (5f; soft) last month.

Encouraging debut effort when runner-up at Windsor (5f; heavy). He will need to find a fair bit more though as this is a stronger contest, and that run came on heavy ground.

Progressed from debut effort when last of four to finish half-length runner up at Yarmouth (6f; heavy) behind the well-regarded Donnybrook (4/11f). Strong chance on that form as he makes his AW debut for yard/jockey combo who are going great guns.

Only newcomer in the field. By Heeraat. Gelded ahead of debut for yard who are operating at a 36% strike-rate (4-11) in the last 14 days. Will need to be talented to win this on debut.

Well-beaten on debut behind Felicia Blue and Leoch at Catterick (6f; soft). May improve, but will need to and is of more interest when entering handicaps.

Underwhelming when fifth behind Felicia Blue last month, when he was unable to step forward from hugely promising debut effort when runner-up to Glasvegas. Makes AW debut, and worth another chance but has something to prove now.

Drops back in trip to 5f after getting off the mark at the second attempt at Catterick (6f; soft) last month. Needs to step up as this is competitive, but there should be more improvement to come.

Should probably be forgiven recent stable debut when she suffered heavy defeat at Chelmsford (6f; standard) at the start of the month. Had previously followed-up promising debut run with a win at Kempton (6f; standard to slow). Not dismissed.

Couldn't get involved on debut at Beverley (5f; good to firm). That was back in September and she has not seen since. Subsequently difficult to see her playing any significant role in this contest.

Well-beaten on debut when 16th of 20 at Newbury (7f; soft). Now drops back to 5f, and trainer has an eye-catching 28% strike-rate at this track. It will be notable if there is market support for her.

Agent Shiftwell (5/2), Baileys Blues (11/2), Felicia Blue (6/1), Daily Times (7/1), Sound Mixer (8/1), Leoch (8/1), Colonel Whitehead (11/1), Pepper Bay (12/1), Only Alone (33/1), Chocolaat Heer (50/1), Gowanlad (66/1), Apples Acre (100/1)

Verdict

An open looking finale, with Daily Times, Leoch and Pepper Bay all considered despite not making the 1-2-3. Felicia Blue showed evident progression from her debut effort to go one place better when successful at Catterick last month, and there should be more to come. The Queen's representative, Sound Mixer, is surely capable of better than she showed on debut, and the drop back in trip is an interesting move by connections. However, BAILEYS BLUES represents an in-form trainer/jockey combo and holds probably the strongest form on offer in this contest after pushing an odds-on John Gosden sort all the way to the line at Yarmouth when last seen.
  1. Baileys Blues
  2. Sound Mixer
  3. Felicia Blue
