Winner over fences at Worcester in October but a bitter disappointment when made favourite back over hurdles at Wetherby last time, that race possibly coming too soon; 5lb higher than that here so needs to bounce back in style.
Won a little novice hurdle at Southwell at the beginning of October but disappointed when made favourite at Hexham latest; gives impression this trip will suit but consistency not his strong point, so is risky.
Some reasonable efforts in handicaps last year and these conditions probably ideal for him; however, paying for that consistency as handicapper slow to release his grip, and may need this after a break anyway.
Highly tried a couple of times last year, including in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham in January; however, hasn't shown enough to think this mark is workable as yet, and was well beaten at Plumpton on reappearance last month.
Held every chance in a novice hurdle here on latest start before jumping went to pieces late, finished third; will surely have learnt from that and if he can get his jumping act together this time, looks a player here.
Exposed as moderate but throws in the odd good effort from time to time when the mood takes him; stays further than this and loves deep ground, so could pop up, but on balance that does look rather unlikely.
Won a little race at Uttoxeter in the spring but hasn't gone on from that and has been well below par on his two starts this autumn; not hard to look elsewhere based on those efforts.
Would look nicely handicapped on his fourth to the useful Keeper Hill back in 2016 here, but not seen out since then until well beaten here earlier in the month; hard to totally discount given connections, but clearly some risk involved now.
Point-to-point winner around this time last year, has shown no more than a glimmer of ability in three hurdles starts but now given a more realistic task and has been handicapped accordingly; step up in trip should suit, and not discounted.
Efforts to date have been rather modest and he was never in the hunt at Fakenham after pulling too hard on latest start; yard have gone quiet too, and not hard to pass over today.
Absolutely thrown in here on bumper form but has yet to reproduce it over hurdles, and didn't beat a horse home at Chepstow last time; yard know the time of day in these events though, and any money for him needs taking very seriously.
Dropped a big hint of better to come when finishing off well in a Stratford novice hurdle last time, grabbing a not-too-distant fifth; handicapped realistically and likely to appreciate step up in trip; one to watch in the market.
Forecasts
Flinck (11/4), Eaglehill (9/2), Woulduadamandeveit (7/1), Lantiern (8/1), Robinshill (9/1), Aliandy (11/1), Moans Cross (12/1), Go Steady (14/1), Samson's Reach (18/1), Remember The Man (25/1), Highate Hill (25/1), Fukuto (66/1)
Probably best to concentrate on the unexposed trio of Flinck, Eaglehill and HIGHGATE HILL, all of whom should improve a fair bit now they go into handicaps. Flinck will do better if his jumping holds up, as he travelled well here last time before that cost him any chance. Eaglehill ran better than his finishing position suggested at Stratford, catching the eye in the process, but it's Olly Murphy's other runner, Highgate Hill, that gets the vote. He actually beat Eaglehill in a point-to-point and looks to want this trip now. Expect better from him today. Money for the well handicapped Woulduadamandeveit would make him more interesting.
- Highate Hill
- Flinck
