Clear career best when finishing 1¾L second to the Lucinda Russell-trained Lucky Flight at Kelso (2m, soft) in October; took a backward step in maiden hurdle there next time; needs more on fourth start over hurdles.

Milan gelding from a 2m-2m4f hurdles winning dam (Brochrua); tongue-tied for debut when finishing 9L second to the easy winner Ribble Valley over 2m here (heavy) 12 days ago; could progress over an extra half mile.

Dam was an unraced sister to the Grand National hero Ballabriggs; runner-up on both starts under rules, including on hurdles debut at Wincanton (2m5½f, good) when beaten a short-head by Dolphin Square; sets the form standard.

7/1
Jeremy gelding (brother to the 2m5f hurdle winner Thegoaheadman); decisive winner of a 3m maiden at Ballindenisk (good) in May; the actual worth of that form is questionable, but in safe hands for rules/hurdles debut; chance.

7/1
Won twice in Irish points for Colin Motherway (3m) before demonstrating some ability in bumpers; sent hurdling more latterly; 22-1 when finishing 22L third to Overthetop at Carlisle (2m4f, good to soft) in October.

Forecasts

Kiltealy Briggs (1/1), Itsnotyouitsme (4/1), All Hail Caesar (4/1), Theflickeringlight (7/1), Strengthofmind (7/1), Getaway Gerry (28/1), Crow Stone (50/1), Be One (66/1)

Verdict

All Hail Caesar ran a solid race when third to a potentially useful winner (Thomas Macdonagh) in a C&D maiden hurdle 12 days ago and should build positively on that performance, while the rules newcomer Strengthofmind is also worthy of consideration for the Longsdon and Sheehan partnership. However, the standout form-based contender is the Jamie Snowden-trained KILTEALY BRIGGS. As aforementioned, Snowden's representative Thomas Macdonagh was a taking winner here at the previous meeting, and this Fame And Glory gelding sets the clear standard for the others to aim towards following a pleasing hurdles debut (caught close home) at Wincanton.
  1. Kiltealy Briggs
  2. All Hail Caesar
  3. Strengthofmind
