Horse A-Z
1
Horse silk
300/1
Well beaten on his only Rules start so far when a 50-1 chance in a Fontwell bumper (only beat one home). Hard to see how he gets involved here making his hurdles debut; best watched for now.
2
Horse silk
25/1
Better effort in bumpers on his debut in that sphere finishing second in a Kempton bumper. Given a considerate introduction to hurdling at Fontwell (2m3f, good/soft) last time; may be one for handicaps in the future.
3
Horse silk
250/1
Well held in three bumpers with the best effort coming last time but still beaten 25L. Makes his hurdles debut coming back from a fair absence; this test likely to prove far too much for him.
4
Horse silk
Fort Denison30

12/1
Fair maiden on the Flat when trained in Ireland by Charles O'Brien but didn't really live up to that level of form on his stable/GB debut at Market Rasen (2m, good/soft). Ran on at the death but looks one who needs time and/or handicaps.

Go Whatever6

2/1
Irish point-to-point winner on his fifth attempt by 14L he offered little on his debut under Rules over hurdles at Worcester (2m7f, good/soft). Much improved for that outing his third at Lingfield in testing conditions showed what he was capable of.
6
Horse silk
7/1
Both bumper runs have shown promise although he's been very free in each of them and may need to settle better before he shows his best. Now makes his hurdles debut (from a good jumping family); interesting sort if he can calm down.

25/1
Cost £48,000 as a 3yo but failed to meet expectations when making his bumper debut. Outpaced over 2m on that occasions this longer trip may suit as he makes his hurdling debut; market positivity would be interesting.

Quloob16
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: J E Moore| T: G & J Moore
2/1
Useful Flat sort for this yard and Owen Burrows before at up to 2m (rated 98 at his peak); shaped quite well on his hurdles introduction (given a considerate ride). Third to two previous hurdles winners on that occasion; up in trip, leading chance.
9
Horse silk
9/2
Wide margin (30L) winner of his only point-to-point at Chaddesley Corbett last April his pedigree also makes him of some appeal. Half-brother to fair hurdler All The Way West; should relish the test on hurdles debut.

Forecasts

Go Whatever (2/1), Quloob (2/1), The Grey Scholar (9/2), Lamanver Bel Ami (7/1), Fort Denison (12/1), Certainly Red (25/1), Laurie Come On (25/1), Downe Milking Lane (250/1), Calypso Jack (300/1)

Verdict

An interesting opener in the only non-handicap on the card with the third of QULOOB on his debut at Ascot versus two previous hurdles winners setting the standard. There should be more to come from the three-time Flat winner with his trainer – Gary Moore – having a good record here. The Grey Scholar and Go Whatever have both scored in point-to-points with the former’s Chaddesley Corbett demolition being the most impressive piece of form in that sphere. Lamanver Bel Ami has a future over hurdles if he can settle better while Fort Denison and Certainly Red are two to keep an eye on for handicaps once they have a mark.
  1. Quloob
  2. The Grey Scholar
  3. Go Whatever
