Well beaten in a number of Grade 3 contests over the larger obstacles last season. Winner of two of his 11 starts over hurdles previously and no surprise to see a big run in this contest.
Will have disappointed connections in a couple of defeats over hurdles last month in small fields. Five-race maiden and still looking no nearer to breakthrough success here.
Well held in a couple of starts on the Flat recently. Last win over hurdles came in May last year and appears up against it still racing 4lb higher than last winning mark.
Won for the second time in his career when landing a soft ground handicap hurdle over C&D off a 7lb lower mark late last month. Looks a progressive type and likely to go well once again.
Winner of two of 13 starts over timber. Well held on his last couple of starts in March and will possibly need the run on seasonal debut.
Won for the second time in 12 hurdle starts when landing a Wexford 2m4½f handicap hurdle on soft to heavy ground off a 5lb lower mark when last seen in May. Market likely to be the best guide on return.
Off the mark in facile fashion at the third time of asking for respected connections when landing a Tramore 2m5½f maiden hurdle on soft to heavy ground last month. Appears a lenient mark to start from.
Form has regressed since returning to action at Galway in August. Needs to step up on recent form to play a part in the finish here.
Winner over hurdles and the larger obstacles in November/December last year. Well held and no impression on comeback run in a Cork 2m3f handicap hurdle last month and more needed in this company.
Course winner that has also won over this trip. Tough and genuine over both fences and timber. Last hurdle win came in a Cork handicap over two years ago off an 11lb lower mark. Looks a tall order.
Veteran who was still winning over hurdles and fences in April and May this year. Well held off a similar mark over hurdles at Galway last month and could find himself up against it in this contest.
Forecasts
Envol Pierji (2/1), High Sparrow (4/1), Cloudy Morning (7/1), Suinda (7/1), Westerner Point (9/1), Rocky's Silver (12/1), Fine Theatre (12/1), Elwood (12/1), Mary Frances (16/1), Noble Endeavor (25/1), Monotype (33/1)
ENVOL PIERJI who got off the mark in facile fashion at the third time of asking when landing a Tramore 2m5½f maiden hurdle on soft to heavy ground last month can add to his success for owner-J P McManus on handicap debut. The five-year-old appears to be on a handy mark and can hold off the attentions of the Joseph O'Brien-trained High Sparrow, winner of a soft ground handicap hurdle over C&D off a 7lb lower mark late last month. The 135-rated veteran, Noble Endeavor can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals.
- Envol Pierji
- High Sparrow
