Horse A-Z
Purchased for just 10,000gns at Newmarket Sales last year but made an immediate return on that when successful at Exeter last month, looking green in the process; never easy giving a penalty away in these events but clearly has ability.

Audacity
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: Harry Teal(5)| T: W Greatrex
16/1
Cost 25,000gns as a yearling; first foal; dam related to a few winners and yard have traditionally done well in this sphere, so has to be considered if market speaks in his favour.
3
Horse silk
50/1
Fifth foal, and a half-brother to point winner Whiskey Moon; bred to want fences and stay well, so debut sixth behind Shinobu at Exeter when beaten under ten lengths was a promising effort; could easily get closer to him here.
4
Horse silk
6/4
Rip Van Winkle gelding, first foal; dam was a Group-placed 1m5f Flat winner and also placed over hurdles, so there's plenty to like about his pedigree; yard have a 24% strike rate with their bumper runners here.
5
Horse silk
100/1
Casamento gelding that was tailed off on debut here last month, never in the hunt; little to recommend his chance today.
6
Horse silk
Makthecat
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: Sean Quinlan| T: K R Burke
7/1
38,000 guineas as a yearling; fifth foal; half-brother to the formerly useful London Protocol, also trained by Karl Burke at one stage; slight worries about his stamina for this, but some market support would make him a bit more interesting.
7
Horse silk
Moon Tigert1
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: P J Brennan| T: Nick WilliamsWS
11/1
Le Havre gelding, cost €55,000 as a yearling, first foal; dam dual French 11.5f winner, and a half-sister to classy Japanese Group 1 winner Fierement; plenty to recommend on pedigree but worrying to see tongue-tie so soon, and has had a wind op too.

Horse silk
Ocean Wind
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: Aidan Coleman| T: R A Teal
28/1
Cost 9,000 guineas at Ascot Sales in July, half-brother to the useful hurdler/chaser Three Kingdoms but yard simply don't get winners in this sphere. Best watched.
9
Horse silk
100/1
Native Ruler gelding that wasn't disgraced on bumper debut at Market Rasen last month, fading late to finish sixth. This looks a much stronger event, however.
10
Horse silk
Sea Prince
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: Kielan Woods| T: A M Hales
50/1
Only cost 3.000 guineas as a yearling, 11th foal; related to plenty of Flat winners and should have the stamina needed for this; yard rarely have winners in bumpers, though.
11
Horse silk
66/1
Fifth on debut at Market Rasen, just in front of Ruler Of Natives there; has some ability based on that, but likely to need plenty more here.
13
Horse silk
12/1
45,000gns Newmarket Oct 2018, proce dropping to just 5,000gns at Newmarket February 2019; made a perfectly satisfactory debt when fourth in similar event last month, looking green in the process; may improve on that.
14
Horse silk
40/1
11th foal, half-brother to a few Flat winners, mainly 7f-1m2f; yard did have a rare bumper winner at Chepstow recently, and on that, he is at least worth a glance in the market for any support.
15
Horse silk
10/1
Seventh foal, closely related to moderate 1m2f winner Dawn Rock, and a half-sister to useful middle distance winner Dawn Missile; yard get plenty of bumper winners here (20% strike rate) and she looks one of more likely ones.
16
Horse silk
25/1
Garswood filly, third foal and a half-sister to the classy 2m hurdle winner Redicean; pedigree and good mix of speed and stamina, and interestingly yard 2-5 in bumpers. Good jockey booking too, and one of the more interesting ones.

Verdict

As ever in these contests, the market will prove informative but the shortlist consists of previous winner Shinobi, Seven Barrows debutante Hooper, Audacity and down the bottom of the card, the two fillies Mattie Ross and SCARLETT O'HALO. The last named comes from the Joseph Tuite yard who rarely have runners in bumpers but are worth noting when they do, and the booking of Brian Hughes really catches the eye.
  1. Scarlett O'halo
  2. Mattie Ross
  3. Shinobi
