Useful in his younger days over hurdles/fences; not won for over two years now and certainly isn't the force he was. Offered little after five months off last time in a Carlisle handicap hurdle; not seen over fences since February 2018 (rated 140).
Game and genuine chaser who proved as good as ever when winning in March at Catterick (2m, good/soft) off a then career-high mark. Two below-par efforts followed; may have benefitted from a break but does have to defy this mark which may prove diffic
Winner in point-to-points who looks an improved model over fence with two good starts either side of a wind op. Ran well in a first-time hood at Hexham over 2m4f last time; should remain competitive off this mark despite the reduction in distance.
Thrived early this year taking three handicap chases in a four month spell travelling and jumping well over 2m at Ayr/Wetherby. Back from a break over C&D last time he was ridden far too aggressively (finished tired); should do better, well weighted.
Quirky sort who generally produces his best at Haydock although he failed to win his favourite race this year having won it the three previous years. Seemingly not the force of old these days; returns from a wind op with plenty of questions to answer
Fair chaser in France for Guy Cherel winning on his last start for that yard but as yet he's failed to show anything that would match that form for this yard. In this headgear combination last time he was flattered by his third place; limited appeal.
Doubtful if he could get anywhere near his old form (last win came off 129; May 2017); down in trip last time, turned in a decent effort at Carlisle (2m). Left behind by the winner from the last; reproduction of that performance would take him close.
C&D winner here in the past but not one to get carried away as he comes with quirks attached; now returns from a break. Passed up an excellent chance to regain the winning thread when last seen off an advantageous mark; one to handle with care.
Forecasts
Ain't My Fault (15/8), King's Wharf (9/2), Charlie Snow Angel (5/1), Ted Veale (11/2), Effet Special (10/1), Halcyon Days (11/1), Las Tunas (12/1), Ubaltique (22/1)
A fair few of these come attached with quirks and it’s the sort of race where we could see some fun and games. Halcyon Days would be one of the straightforward types in the race and he may well be better now that he’s had a break but he does have to defy the handicapper once again. King’s Wharf is well handicapped on his old form but there’s no guarantee he can reproduce his last effort on ground this testing while Effet Special only ran on through beaten horses last time. With Ain’t My Fault a non-runner at Hexham yesterday due to the heavy going there must be a doubt about him running here and LAS TUNAS is taken to pick up the winning thread under a less aggressive ride this time.
- Las Tunas
- Ain't My Fault
- Halcyon Days
