Horse A-Z
€13,000 2yo, out of a maiden who was best over middle distances, and is a half-sister to middle distance Group 3 winner Goncharova. Stable's first bumper runner of the season, and probably best watched.
Out of a French 2m2f-2m6f chase winner. Stamina and also AQPS Flat race success in the family. Stable 2-22 in bumpers over past five seasons. One to check out in the market.

€8,500 yearling. Dam an unraced half-sister to 1m4f-2m winner Dubawi Fifty. Stamina-laden pedigree and represents a trainer who is yet to have a bumper winner this season, but 28% over the past five years. Interesting.

Nice pedigree and former Godolphin inmate who was 8-1 and stayed on strongly on debut to be 1½L second in a Market Rasen (1m5f, good to soft) bumper. Longer trip looks positive and he should give another good account.

€15,500 foal. Brother to a placed bumper runner, out of a French 1m7f Listed hurdle winner. Trainer 19% in this sphere over five seasons. Should be capable of giving a good account.
Closely related to Flat winners at around 1m1f. Dam placed over 1m2f, but there is stamina in the family. Trainer 10% in this discipline in Ireland over five seasons, and 14% in British raids over the same period. Market check suggested.

18,000gns 3yo. Brother to a 1m2f-2m winner; half-brother to 1m4f AW/2m turf and 2m hurdle winner, out of French Oaks second. Trainer 0-5 in bumpers over five seasons, but has been in good form lately. Interesting.

Horse silk

66-1 and was unruly at the start on debut when 9L fourth at Exeter (1m5f, good; first-time tongue-tie) recently. Not devoid of promise there, but likely to need improvement on that bare form.
€30,000 2yo. Brother to French 2m2f hurdle winner, out of a placed middle distance runner. Stable 8% over past five seasons in this sphere, and not usually known for debut winners.

Horse silk
40/1
€3,000 foal, €22,000 yearling. Sister to two winners over 7f-1m2f; half-sister to four winners, largely over middle distances; dam a 1m1f French Listed winner. Trainer 8% in bumpers over five seasons. Best watched unless market vibes strong.

Forecasts

Quick Draw (7/2), Let Me Be (4/1), Second Subaltern (4/1), Mawlood (4/1), Sol De Mayo (6/1), Vulcan Bomber (10/1), Spark Of Madness (14/1), Gerolamo Cardano (16/1), Groom D'Oudairies (22/1), Soldier On (25/1), Red Dragoness (40/1)

Verdict

A tough race to call, but given how well he ran on debut, and the fact that he has that experience under his belt, former Godolphin-owned MAWLOOD looks a solid option. Vulcan Bomber can probably take a closer hand, while Soldier On clearly can't be dismissed. Of the newcomers, Let Me Be, Sol De Mayo, Quick Draw and Groom D'oudairies are all worth checking for market confidence.
  1. Mawlood
  2. Let Me Be
  3. Soldier On
