Took three of his first four races under Rules having also won in Point-to-points. Best excused his heavy defeat last time under a double penalty having made a very bad mistake at the fifth; still shoulders that hefty burden here though; hood added.
Off the mark at the fourth attempt in Irish point-to-points (cost £75,000 soon after). Looked one for the longer term in his debut bumper underlining that point when making his hurdling debut over C&D; open to progress but over 2m4f plus.
Has looked in need of the experience on both his starts so far in a bumper and over hurdles racing freely both times. Can only be watched at present on the evidence he's presented so far.
Sent off at 100-1 on his Carlisle hurdling debut he failed to show ant promise at all eventually being pulled up after losing touch from four out. One for a watching brief.
Went with little encouragement on his bumper debut (finished last) and showed little more when given his hurdles debut over C&D last time. Looks as though he'll be brought along steadily, little appeal this side of handicaps.
Dual modest Flat winner when with David Evans in a pair of 1m2f AW handicaps; showed little in that sphere of late. Very little promise in his hurdling/stable debut (without usual headgear); far from fluent hurdling.
Went one better than his bumper debut second against a useful sort second time out prior to reappearing five months later to take third on his hurdles debut. Considerately handled on that occasion he looks sure to progress and repay that kindness.
Got better with each run to land a bumper on his start and then continued that progression when taking second under a penalty in a subsequent bumper. May well be suited by a bit more of a test than he'll get here on his hurdling debut; still of inter
Improved from his two previous Irish bumper starts when making his GB/stable debut having been purchased for £10,000 prior to his Ffos Las second (July 2018). Given time since then; stable are rather quiet, interesting to see what the market says.
Placed in his last two Irish point-to-points he proved to be unfancied on his bumper debut despite representing decent connections starting at 40-1 on debut. Will need to offer more to get involved on hurdles debut.
Modest sort on the Flat (stays 1m; 1-24) he shaped like a non-stayer at Exeter on his debut over hurdles racing freely and of little interest here.
Likely to be of little interest here having been pulled up on his last two starts in a point-to-point and in a novices' hunter chase. Stable/hurdles debut.
Lightly-raced Flat sort for Charlie Appleby on the Flat (won twice over staying trips); sold fir £28,000 in May. Now makes his stable/hurdles debut (fascinating prospect); yard could be in better form though; interesting to see what the market says.
Newcomer who cost €15,000 as a yearling; half-sister to bumper winner Bullfrog; dam bumper/2m hurdle winner. Best watched this time around unless there was significant market support.
Little impact in a variety of disciplines the most recent of which was a Ffos Las maiden hurdle where she showed little in testing conditions. Hard to fashion a case for her on the evidence so far; best watched.
Won four times on the Flat last year when with Roget Fell over 1m but hasn't shown much over hurdles so far in two attempts. Pulled up on debut over C&D she did a little better at Huntingdon when last seen in this sphere; progress needed to feature.
Forecasts
Olly The Brave (1/1), Onthefrontfoot (3/1), Perfect Predator (7/2), Winds Of Fire (16/1), Avoid De Master (16/1), Ring The Moon (25/1), M' Lady May (50/1), Skylanna Breeze (50/1), Caroline's Quest (50/1), Illdoittomorrow (100/1), Tally's Son (100/1), Plansina (100/1), First Man (150/1), Tomoroz Man (150/1), Bells Of Barnack (150/1), Miniature Daffodil (150/1)
The form standard is set by Onthefrontfoot but as with his last race he’s likely to be anchored by his double penalty against some useful types and his future will lie in handicaps as this scenario makes him look vulnerable. OLLY THE BRAVE showed plenty of ability in his bumper days and made a very eye-catching hurdling debut last month behind one who had defeated him in a bumper, only ridden with hand-and-heels he gets the nod here. Perfect Predator and Avoid De Master are two hurdling newcomers of note but the most interesting of that group would be the useful Flat handicapper Winds Of Fire although his yard could be in better form.
- Olly The Brave
- Perfect Predator
- Winds Of Fire
