Looked a nice prospect when getting the better of Lisnagar Oscar to score on his chase debut at Chepstow recently (2m7½f, good to soft). Wasn't up to Grade 1 standard over hurdles, but potentially progressive in this sphere. Interesting.
Grade 1 staying hurdle winner two seasons ago and found just one too good in last season's Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Warmed to his task to beat a Dan Skelton-trained odds-on favourite here (2m3½f) on chase debut. Longer trip a plus.
Decent novice over hurdles in 2017-18 (stayed 2m6½f on soft). Only seen once since February 2018, when pulled up over C&D on his chase debut at last year's Christmas meeting. Not written off, but clearly a fair bit to prove now.
Soft ground debut bumper winner in 2017 for Philip Hobbs. Added a Carlisle handicap hurdle to his CV when last seen in March. Up 7lb for this chase debut, but needs plenty of improvement if he is to get involved.
Useful at his best in his novice hurdling campaign in 2017-18 but well held in his one completion from three chase attempts so far. Was still going well in front when falling four out at Hexham last month. Blinkers fitted but more needed.
Forecasts
Sam Spinner (8/13), Ardlethen (15/8), Coole Hall (20/1), Senor Lombardy (20/1), Mance Rayder (80/1)
It is interesting that, having seen their own Beakstown beaten by SAM SPINNER here last month, the Skeltons are represented here by debut chase winner Ardlethen. That may suggest that they think they have something good enough to beat Jedd O'Keeffe's runner, and there is little doubting that their gelding should have more to come. However, if Sam Spinner can fence fluently, then he too can step up on his debut success now upped again in trip. Coole Hall looks next best in terms of what he has achieved, but has plenty to prove after another layoff.
- Sam Spinner
- Ardlethen
