Acquired for €150,000 after beating a useful sort in a point-to-point on heavy ground; produced two fair efforts at Limerick and Gowran Park when seen on the racecourse proper and it won't be long before he is in the winner's enclosure.
Just a maiden hurdle win to his name at Gowran Park last November but coped well in handicaps subsequently; should be primed for his chase debut and certainly one to consider.
Flattered to deceive in nine-race hurdles career for Neil Mulholland in Britain, winning one of his nine starts. Not fluent on chasing debut in a Cork 2m4f beginners contest in April and fell four out. Others preferred.
Rated 135 over hurdles and ran some fine races last season; will have benefitted from his first outing over hurdles recently at Punchestown when runner-up to Notebook and clearly one with a good chance here.
Was in fair form on the Flat and over hurdles throughout the summer; fair effort on chase debut recently at Punchestown and can progress but a bit to find with Eclair De Beaufeu on that run.
Nine-race maiden well held in eight dismal efforts over hurdles; continued in that vein when only beating one home on chasing debut at Tramore earlier this month; unlikely winner.
Chase debut; has been in good form over hurdles (over slightly further) of late and finished third at Gowran Park on his latest start; fair chance if translating form to the larger obstacles.
Recent maiden hurdle winner making his chase debut; had been in good form last season without winning and if he can take that consistency to fences then he should make up into a decent chaser but others preferred today.
Fair handicap hurdle form last season and not disgraced on recent chase debut at Fairyhouse; open to improvement but could find a couple too classy at this stage of his career.
Useful hurdler though not the most consistent.; interesting contender on chase debut and it might be worth a check in the market to gauge stable confidence.
Forecasts
Eclair De Beaufeu (7/4), Line Out (11/4), Raya Time (10/3), At The Acorn (8/1), Star Max (10/1), Ballyneety (18/1), The Long Mile (33/1), Ingleby Mackenzie (40/1), Duke Of Kilcorral (66/1), La Regle (100/1)
AT THE ACORN has an upward profile and the requisite experience to land this for Tony Martin. Well regarded he did little wrong on his two chase outings and will have been well schooled over the summer. His main danger could be Eclair De Beaufeu who was a very decent hurdler and showed a good deal of promise on his chase debut earlier this month at Punchestown. Ballyneety is worth a look in the market on his chase debut having shown plenty of ability over hurdles while another debutante Line Out has a chance to spring a surprise if taking to fences.
