Gained fourth career win over fences when landing a Tipperary handicap over 2m3f in July but well held since and trainer looks to have clearer chance with Mount Hanover today.
Standout performer in Hunter Chase sphere, including runner-up finishes at Aintree and Punchestown in the spring after March success at Downpatrick. Entitled to plenty respect here.
Popped up with two wins last season against fellow veterans but failed to complete in seven chase starts around those efforts and opposable again.
Yet to win this season but solid enough form shown. Remains 4lb clear of previous win-mark but trip looks spot on and can be in the mix at his best.
Good efforts last month in beginners' chases at Listowel and Roscommon, pitches into a handicap from what is fair mark on hurdles form and will relish the underfoot conditions. Looks a key player.
Was back from a 428-day absence when well down the field at Roscommon last month on stable bow. Needs to find his best stuff from current mark and looks opposable.
Won a 2m Tramore novice chase in January 2018 and began last season with runner-up effort over C&D in first-time cheekpieces. Went backwards in the spring however. Needs to benefit from freshness seemingly.
Decent form in beginners' chases early in the year, including a win at Leopardstown (2m5½f, soft) in March. Should be sharper for recent hurdles run at Gowran Park (pulled up) and might have more to offer in this sphere.
Tramore winner in August from 13lb lower rating, struggling since and hard to have faith in from 6lb out of the handicap having been pulled up at Thurles on Thursday.
Forecasts
Mount Hanover (9/4), Burning Ambition (11/4), Roxboro Road (6/1), Punches Cross (7/1), Peculiar Genius (9/1), Whoyakodding (11/1), Deans Road (16/1), Deputy's Pass (16/1), Lilshane (33/1)
Burning Ambition is best known for his exploits in the Hunter Chase sphere but is a worthy candidate switched to handicapping, while there may be plenty more to come from Mount Hanover on his first foray in this sphere. ROXBORO ROAD showed a good aptitude for this game in the spring, including a win at Leopardstown. He was pulled up on his seasonal bow over timber recently but should leave that well behind now and can make further progress as a chaser for Ted Walsh.
- Roxboro Road
- Mount Hanover
- Burning Ambition
