12/1
3lb higher than when winning for the second time over hurdles at Catterick (3m1½f, good) - that novices' hurdle was effectively a match on paper; returns to action from a 243-day absence.

Win My Wings16
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-10| J: Jack Tudor(6)| T: Christian Williams| OR:  128
5/1
Consistent over obstacles, winning a 2m4f novices' hurdle at Worcester (soft) by 6L on his penultimate start; outclassed in the Grade 2 Persian War (Chepstow) subsequently; this is a more realistic assignment.
3
Horse silk
Henrietta Bell18
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: Page Fuller| T: H Whittington| OR:  127
22/1
Has a 50% strike-rate over hurdles (3-6), progressing through the ranks from a maiden (Southwell), novices' (Uttoxeter) and into a Class 3 mares' handicap (Worcester); sits 7lb above her last winning mark.
4

Smackwater Jack209
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-9| J: Fergus Gregory(3)| T: O Murphy| OR:  127| BF
7/1
Justified favouritism in a Ludlow maiden hurdle (2m5f, good to soft) in January before being set a stiff task in graded company at Sandown (2m4f, soft); ended the season on a low-key note at Ludlow (beaten fav); tough mark?

Mr Muldoonp121
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-8| J: Charlie Hammond(3)| T: Dr R D P Newland| OR:  126
3/1
Point-to-point winner (2-6); remains unbeaten over hurdles (under rules) following wins at Worcester (2m, good) and Kelso (2m5f, soft) - beat Sidi Ismael by 1½L latest; sports cheekpieces on handicap debut; of some interest.

Horse silk
Same Circus192
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-2| J: Theo Gillard(8)| T: D McCain Jnr| OR:  120| D
40/1
A likeable mare who is a winner over both hurdles and fences (5-23); sits 2lb above her last winning mark (Bangor 3m, soft); ended last season in a quiet spell of form; others make more appeal.
7
Horse silk
Mighty Thundert,v32
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-2| J: Blair Campbell(3)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  120
15/2
Kept busy at Perth since April, made amends for finishing a close second to Holy Motivation (3m, good to soft) on his penultimate start when taking a similar Class 3 handicap there next time; a further 5lb higher in a stronger race.

Horse silk
Uptown Harry21
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-2| J: Sam Coltherd| T: Mrs J Walton| OR:  120
14/1
Maiden under rules (0-5), yet has some creditable form on his CV; theoretically shouldn't trouble the reopposing Mr Muldoon on the evidence of their clash at Kelso (2m5f, soft).
9
Horse silk
Laugharne48
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: Charlie Price(6)| T: Tim Vaughan| OR:  119
11/2
6lb higher than when winning a Class 4 handicap hurdle at Southwell (3m, good) in May 2018; made a fair return to action off a nine-month absence when beaten 8L by Sizing Granite at Newton Abbot (3m2½f, good to soft).
10
Horse silk
Bryden Boy184
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-11| J: Thomas Dowson| T: J Candlish| OR:  115
18/1
No win since March 2017 (3m, Doncaster) and has fallen a whopping 16lb in the handicap as a result; is difficult to enthuse over on return to action (from a 184-day absence) unless the ground comes up extremely testing.
11
Horse silk
Kalaharry271
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-6| J: Danny McMenamin| T: A C Whillans| OR:  110
17/2
Lightly raced in recent times but evidently suited by a test of stamina on soft ground; a winner of three of his last five starts over hurdles - 5lb higher than when beating Loch Linnhe by ½L at Newcastle (3m, soft) in January.

Forecasts

Mr Muldoon (3/1), Win My Wings (5/1), Laugharne (11/2), Smackwater Jack (7/1), Mighty Thunder (15/2), Kalaharry (17/2), Hogan's Height (12/1), Uptown Harry (14/1), Bryden Boy (18/1), Henrietta Bell (22/1), Same Circus (40/1)

Verdict

MR MULDOON aside this has the look and feel of a trappy race with Hogan's Height, Smackwater Jack and Henrietta Ball all potentially high enough in the weights. The Dr Richard Newland-trained handicap debutante looked to be a stamina-laden individual when maintaining his unbeaten record over hurdles at Kelso (2m5f, soft) three weeks ago. Although the runner-up Sidi Ismael somewhat let the form down in defeat at Stratford last week, he remains well regarded by Keith Dalgleish and we shouldn't read too much into that below-par performance. If the ground comes up extremely testing, both Bryden Boy and Kalaharry would enter the reckoning.
  1. Mr Muldoon
  2. Mighty Thunder
  3. Win My Wings
