Won first two novice chases in pleasing fashion then beaten at 1/5 last time by only other finisher (received 17lb) in three-runner affair at Uttoxeter. Could bounce back but wouldn't want any more give underfoot.

Better over fences than hurdles and rattled off a summer Stratford chase hat-trick before finsihing third last time at Perth off 10lb higher mark on first attempt at 3m. Drop back in trip makes sense and should be thereabouts.

Yard won this in 2016 with useful Shantou Village. Lightly raced winner of 3-7 starts. Runner-up in both chases so far over 3m and drop back may well bring about improvement. More needed but is not out of it.

Useful staying handicap hurdler who was close third to subsequent champ Paisley Park at Haydock in November week after scoring here in good style. Tackles shorter trip for chasing bow but type to do well in this sphere.

Plenty of decent form over hurdles and made respectable start over fences when runner-up at Cartmel in August on first start for over five months. Back over timber and disappointed last time so cracks on now with chase career.

Won maiden hurdle at this meeting two years ago on Rules debut and followed up in Grade 2 back here start after. Hasn't won since but has kept some hot company. Last seen finishing eighth in Arkle Chase at last season's Festival.

Forecasts

First Assignment (9/4), Secret Investor (11/4), Slate House (3/1), Pym (5/1), Go Another One (11/2), Dead Right (6/1), Whatmore (7/1), Topofthecotswolds (15/2), Garo De Juilley (8/1)

Verdict

This looks a hot renewal and there are a number with claims, but it seems significant that connections throw the promising PYM in here on his chasing bow. He is sure to have had plenty of practice at home and is fancied to make a winning first appearace over fences. Secret Investor is useful and is a big danger on his Grade 2 win at Ayr in the spring. He looks a proper threat along with Slate House, Go Another One and Dead Right. Whatmore can't be ruled out either with his yard in cracking form at the moment.
  1. Pym
  2. Secret Investor
  3. Whatmore
