Won nicely at Carlisle last winter but failed to back that up in two subsequent starts. Returns from long break and will need to be fully wound up to have a chance of defying top weight.
Five-time Flat winner. Ran well when second at Huntingdon last week but didn't look an easy ride. Chance if building on that but bit more needed to win.
Yard's representatives in fine form of late and this gelding ran well on first start for six months when third of 17 over C&D last time, behind in-form winner. Runs off same mark so every chance he will go close if in similar mood.
Nine-time winner over fences and hurdles and did very well latest at bare minimum trip for him when second over C&D last time. Raised 3lb but holds Karakoram on that form. Yard's only runner at the meeting so has to be respected.
Veteran whose last wn came in Cheltenham handicap hurdle two years ago off 15lb higher mark. Has won here twice in the past and wasn't beaten far at Southwell in August prior to modest effort last time. Not out of it but others preferred.
Local yard had 32 hurdle winners here and currently going through a very good spell. This seven-race maiden has a bit to find on the formbook but ran her best race on seasonal bow last term so absence shouldn't hinder her prospects.
Only win came for Andrew Balding in 1m4f Southwell handicap 11 months ago. Showed little over C&D last time and has quite a bit to find if he's going to make his presence felt.
Looking for 10th career win. Went off hard here over C&D last time and faded badly over final two flights. Chance if ridden with more restraint but hasn't won since May 2016 so has a tough task.
19-race maiden under both codes and has failed to reach a place in seven previous attempts over hurdles. Well beaten in all starts in this sphere and first-time cheekpieces unlikley to make enough of a difference.

Nefyn Bay and KARAKORAM were second and third respectively here last time. Both ran well that day but Karaoram has that little bit more scope being a much younger horse and may improve for that experience. The top three in the weights are all respected. Thaqaffa is fit after a quirky second last time, but both Gregarious and Avantgardist look more straight-forward and could go well if fully wound up with both having their first start back this campaign.
