Won on his first couple of outings for David O'Meara (5f-6f) after taking a Windsor seller for Richard Hannon; form has tailed-off steadily since; visor now applied; reverts back to the AW (3-19 career).

No win since finishing strongly at York (6f, good to soft) last October and has failed to hit the target on the AW period (0-4); slightly more encouraging (11th of 24) in the Ayr Bronze Cup (6f, good) latest.

Seventh of 23 in the Stewards Cup Consolation at Goodwood (6f) in August; returned to winning ways (3-7 on the AW) when making all for a neck success here (5f) a fortnight ago; is impossible to discount off just 3lb higher.

Without a win since joining David Barron in late 2018, but has fallen to a more manageable handicap mark as a result (eased some 17lb or so); off the track for 182 days since competing at Wolverhampton in April; may need the run.

Progressive last winter, recording back-to-back victories at this track (6f & 7f novices'); hasn't made an overly positive impression on turf (0-2) but eases a few pounds in the weights, dropping back in trip at his favoured stomping ground.

3lb lower than when short-headed by Boundary Lane at Doncaster in April (5f, good); has blown hot and cold since (finished last of eight at Yarmouth recently); can a return to the AW (3-20 career) reignite the fire in his belly?

Saw off a maximum field when winning a 22-runner Class 4 handicap at York (6f, good to soft) in June; has gone right off the boil in more recent times and needs to buck up his ideas considerably in order to play a positive role.

Productive here (1m) through the depths of the winter (Jan/Feb); hasn't fired on all cylinders since recently returning from a six-month absence (0-3); slowly easing in the weights, yet appears vulnerable at 6f; others make considerably more appeal.

Verdict

Piercebridge trainer Michael Dods has three declared runners in this Class 4 handicap with JOHN KIRKUP, Dutch Pursuit and Axe Axelrod all ticking the required boxes. The selection ploughed through the mud at Ayr (6f) three weeks ago and is capable of shouldering a 7lb rise in the weights. Interestingly he made the frame in this race 12 months ago on his sole previous AW start. Meanwhile stablemates Dutch Pursuit (2-3 at Newcastle) and the recent Class 6 C&D winner Axe Axelrod (also declared to race at Southwell on Monday) will have their supporters. Others for fairly serious consideration include Secretinthepark and the newly hooded Primo's Comet.
  1. John Kirkup
  2. Primo's Comet
  3. Secretinthepark
