5-12 over fences, with his most recent success coming in a game and determined manner at Worcester (2m, good to soft); arguably the handicapper has his measure, so the cheekpieces are applied seeking to eke out further improvement.
Shot up the weights (20lb+) last season as a result of four wins over fences, including twice on good to soft ground at Newbury; pulled up in the Listed Scotty Brand Chase at Ayr (2m+, good) in April; seasonal reappearance.
Has a solid career record around Kempton, winning twice over timber on a sound surface during the spring; unfortunate (clear when falling) on his second chasing start; lost little in defeat to the gallant Theflyingportrait at Kelso subsequently.
Boasts a 25% strike-rate over hurdles (3-12), earning a rating of 132 in the process; blew a golden opportunity when jumping badly right on chasing debut at Southwell (1m7½f, good); promises to be much more effective going right-handed.
An experienced chaser (3-34); hasn't stepped forward since splitting Mcgroarty and Double W's at Uttoxeter (2m, good) in June, and lacks the scope for future progression over fences (possessed by some of today's younger rivals).
5-21 over fences (includes a walkover at Plumpton in April); was struggling from halfway when finishing fifth of six to Master Work on seasonal reappearance at Fontwell (2m2f, good) a fortnight ago; others readily preferred.
Forecasts
Tidal Watch (9/4), Snapdragon Fire (7/2), Adrrastos (4/1), Solar Impulse (4/1), Darebin (10/1), Lillington (12/1)
Snapdragon Fire was a useful hurdler for Tom Lacey, but he looked all at sea throughout when racing left-handed on his chasing debut at Southwell. His undoubted ability kept him competitive in that race, and the chances are that he'll be a totally different proposition on a right-handed track (won over hurdles at Huntingdon and Ludlow). However, a very marginal preference is for the Kempton regular TIDAL WATCH for the O'Neill partnership. Unfortunate not to win at Newton Abbot (final fence fall), this five-year-old Harbour Watch gelding lost little in defeat to the galloping grey Theflyingportrait in the Scottish Borders at Kelso subsequently.
