Mudlark and multiple winner under both codes. Stays 2m1f on the Flat, and is 1lb above his last winning mark here. Returns to this code in continued good form from a stint back over hurdles. Claims.

0-9 on turf in this code, but scored in a Uttoxeter maiden hurdle (soft) on his most recent outing. Trainer has done well with dual purpose types before, and not ruled out on his return to the Flat.

Dual AW winner who had yet to win in 31 attempts on turf in either code. Ran well over C&D behind Jan De Heem (runs in Division 1) last time, but soft ground a concern and a place looks his best hope.

Course winner over 2m (good to soft) this time last year, when 5lb higher. Acts on soft. Has been out of form under both codes on his last four starts, but no surprise if he comes into this now back here for local trainer.

Dual soft ground winner over hurdles (2m4f). 0-6 in this code, and beaten 10L in this race last year, when on the same mark. Much more needed.

0-7 so far, and well held in all starts. Impossible to fancy, even in this class of contest.

Appeared to handle soft ground well enough at Lingfield on his penultimate start, and as a half-brother to a 2m4f hurdle winner, there is hope that he might get this trip. Mark now workable and visor could help. Interesting.

Yet to prove she gets this far, though given that she has been tried over stamina trips on her last two, perhaps connections feel this is her forte. Would be a player if able to repeat her last Southwell (1m4f, AW) effort from this basement mark.

Forecasts

Smart Lass (7/4), St Andrews (3/1), Masters Apprentice (4/1), Legalized (4/1), Nataleena (4/1), Only Orsenfoolsies (9/2), Archie's Sister (9/2), Gordalan (18/1), Richard Strauss (25/1), Late For The Sky (50/1)

Verdict

A tough race to call, given that local trainer Phil Kirby arrives mob-handed, with Richard Strauss, Archie's Sister and Gordalan all representing him. Cases of some sort can be made for all three, while neither Masters Apprentice nor St Andrews is ruled out. Only Orsenfoolsies is thoroughly consistent across both codes and looks a big player, but even he may struggle to successfully concede weight to the in-form SMART LASS, who romped home last time and is taken to defy a 5lb penalty.
  1. Smart Lass
  2. Only Orsenfoolsies
  3. Gordalan
