With Roy Brotherton when finishing a keeping on second to Red Invader in a Class 6 C&D handicap in May; twice a beaten favourite since joining this trainer; very surprising if he's the solution here.

Cost 68,000gns as a yearling; off the track for 165 days since finishing a toiling (always in rear) ninth of ten to Nahaarr in a 6f Doncaster novice (good) in May.

52,000gns yearling; with William Jarvis when a beaten favourite (runner-up to Khafooq) in a 5f Windsor novice (good to firm) in June; ran okay (fourth) on handicap/stable debut at Newcastle just under three weeks ago.

Pacy and consistent, placed on all five starts (6f-7f); nabbed close home by Gold At Midnight on his penultimate start at Leicester (6f, good); evidently is well suited by Fibresand and the drop back to 5f could hold the key to unlock the door.

16/1
Lightly raced maiden (0-6); in excellent hands with the 'sprint-king' Paul Midgley; his August Catterick third to Dancing Mountain (5f, good to soft) represents his strongest single piece of form; needs to show further improvement.

9/4
75,000gns yearling; raced freely on debut at Newcastle (7f) in March, finishing a weakening fourth; built marginally on that opening effort at Doncaster (6f) next time; absent since (for 173 days) and drops back to 5f on Fibresand debut.

Verdict

A weak and very winnable maiden featuring a number of horses who have essentially failed to live up to expectations thus far (based on purchase price). Both Lofty and HAREEM QUEEN promise to be suited by dropping back to the minimum trip, and there's no disputing that the David Barron-trained gelding has been the more consistent of that pair on the racecourse. That said, the John Dance-owned filly may have slightly more potential for the longer-term and therefore rates as the token advice on her return to action from a 173-day break.
  1. Hareem Queen
  2. Lofty
  3. Great Suspense
