Made it third-time lucky when justifying favouritism (6-4) with an all-out win in a Kilbeggan bumper (2m3f+, good to yielding); his overall form is relatively solid, and the 5lb claimer C P McNamara helps to negate the incurred penalty.
Made a winning debut at Stratford (2m+, good) in August - form isn't overly strong; was unable to defy his penalty when finishing 9½L third to Wbee back there a couple of weeks later; 7lb claimer Jack Savage takes over in the saddle.
Rob Roy gelding; showed improvement on his second start at Perth (2m, soft) when a keeping on 50-1 fourth of eight (beaten 2L) to Doyen Breed; must find slightly more in order to break the duck; place possible.
€7,500 foal, £20,000 3yo; third foal from an unraced dam who was a half-sister to the useful 2m5f-3m1f hurdle/chase winner Richard's Sundance; in excellent hands with Keith Dalgleish; consult the market.
Beaten in excess of 14L when fourth of ten in a Stowlin point-to-point (3m, good) in May; joined Sue Smith more or less immediately afterwards for £11,000; one for the future.
No match for the impressive Heartbreak Kid in a Kirkistown maiden point (3m, soft to heavy) in March; in contention when falling at the last next time; this £44,000 purchase debuts under rules for Brian Ellison and Phil/Julie Martin.
Stowaway gelding; cost €52,000 as a 3yo; half-brother to the 2m4f/2m5f hurdles winner Finding Joy; held every chance when slipping up (4-6f) in a 3m maiden at Tabley (good) in April; noteworthy that Stan Sheppard takes off 3lb on rules debut.
Shirocco gelding; looked raw and very inexperienced in two starts for Venetia Williams; moved on cheaply (for £3,000) in August, and that's hardly a ringing endorsement; first start for the Catterick handler Phil Kirby.
Forecasts
Dakota Beat (13/8), Neville's Cross (3/1), Grumpy Mcgrumpface (4/1), Took The Lot (6/1), Kearney Hill (10/1), Flutter Down (20/1), Kauto D'Amour (20/1), Wye Aye (40/1)
The Irish raider DAKOTA BEAT has relatively solid form, so despite having to concede a winners penalty to all bar one of his rivals (the vulnerable Took The Lot) he's fancied to follow up his narrow Kilbeggan success. That said, there are a number of potential dangers, not least the Tom Lacey-trained Neville's Cross who was a very warm order indeed (4-6f) on point-to-point debut at Tabley. Furthermore, the likes of Kearney Hill (Brian Ellison) and Grumpy Mcgrumpface (Keith Dalgleish) are also worthy of close market inspection on their respective stable debuts.
- Dakota Beat
- Neville's Cross
- Kearney Hill
