Went close in a Sedgefield maiden hurdle (2m5f, good) last season on reappearance but form went backwards from there; failing to complete in two of three further starts. Returns to action having joined this trainer, watch betting.
Poor form in Ireland over timber in six starts and was tailed off at Clonmel in June over fences on final start for Edward O'Grady (wore cheekpieces). Plenty to prove on debut for new handler after a break.
Showed ability in maiden hurdles last season, though easily fended off in two handicaps in the spring. Back from layoff sporting a first-time tongue-tie and with improvement to find.
Maiden of six starts over timber, couldn't make any inroads at Fontwell in August (2m1½f, good to firm) in lower grade contest having had wind surgery, despite market support. Interesting to see how he fares in betting now.
Chase winner this month already at Southwell (1m7½f, soft) off mark 2lb lower than this, looks well-in on these terms if translating form to hurdles. 0-12 previously over timber.
Point-to-point winner, shown glimpses of ability in four-race hurdling career thus far, though will surely have to improve for switch to handicaps if hoping to open account.
Long-standing maiden over timber (0-20), she did make the frame at Southwell (3m, good) in August in a weak affair but has struggled in two outings since and doesn't make strong appeal here.
Showed a bit more at Bangor in August on second start in handicaps, though was already under pressure when coming to grief at Worcester (2m4f, good) last month at the second last. Has work to do, but possible improver.
Forecasts
Joly Maker (5/4), Debrouillard (5/1), Viking Ruby (6/1), Colby (7/1), Realta Dawn (8/1), Far Bihoue (10/1), The Longest Time (25/1), Bluebell Sally (33/1)
Joly Maker has already won over fences this month and is well-treated back over timber but he does have a stamina question to answer and looks set to be rather short in the betting given he is yet to win in this sphere. Viking Ruby could have more to offer but a chance is taken on COLBY, debuting here for new connections. This is the right sort of trip for him and he has been given a chance by the handicapper.
- Colby
- Joly Maker
- Viking Ruby
