Form of the race is unlikely to be anything to shout about, but he did it nicely enough when making a winning debut at Killarney (2m1f; soft) in August. Interesting to see how he fares in this tougher contest.

Won a Borris House (3m; soft) point-to-point back in March when sent off 4-6f. Afforded maximum respect for powerful yard/combo who do so well in these races. Likely to prove the biggest danger to Rocket Lad.
0-3 since switching to rules races. Unlikely to take up engagement in this after running at Clonmel on Thursday.
Hard to knock his effort on debut when runner-up at Listowel (2m; yielding). That form has since been franked by the third who won a bumper during the week. Yard form is of slight concern but he has decent claims nevertheless.
Ran in accordance with odds of 33-1 when well-beaten at Killarney (2m1f; good) back in May. Likely to experience slower ground now, but that is unlikely to be enough to see him improve to the level required to win this. Readily opposed.

Verdict

This is likely to be a straightforward task for ROCKET LAD who can get his confidence back with a win after falling at the last on hurdles bow at Killarney in August. His form is by far the best on offer, including when he finished third in a typically strong bumper at the Punchestown Festival on his rules debut. Of the opposition, Escaria Ten is an interesting newcomer for Gordon Elliot after winning his only point-to-point, but he is likely to need more of a test of stamina. The Little Yank should also be able to snatch a place after he was third on debut in a fairly decent race, the form of which has since been franked.
  1. Rocket Lad
  2. Escaria Ten
  3. The Little Yank
