Edging down the weights (10lb under his last winning mark); showed a little more than of late when taking third at Hexham last time over this trip (typically made it look hard work). Blinkers now applied (first-time), could take another step forward.

Showed some fair form in Ireland (one run) and in GB for this yard without winning; has yet to match his debut form. Hope for his chance contained in the fact that he's in a handicap (first-time) and faces a stiffer test; note a market move.

Appeared rejuvenated in two runs for Stef Keniry at the start of the year winning both times evoking memories of his form of previous years. Up 11lb since last seen (now with a new yard); has run well fresh before (dual course winner); respected.

Fair bumper performer who improved with each run over hurdles producing his best run over C&D earlier in the year. Not seen since he travelled well on that occasion (should have been played earlier; given plenty to do); contender if ready to go.

Not quite made the expected start that many new recruits do for this yard (beaten favourite twice) but looks in good heart having been placed at Worcester the last twice. Ought to be effective off this mark but one or two are preferred to her.

Related to jumps winners and out of a dam who was a bumper winner but has shown next to nothing so far over hurdles. Does have the look of a longer-term project so it's possible handicaps will show him in a better light; mark is a total guess though.

Verdict

Quite a decent contest for the grade with some interesting contenders not least Just Call Me Al who may well have got closer to winning over C&D when he was last seen with a more positive ride. If he can cope with the long absence, he’s a leading player along with Trapper Peak and Nathan’s Pride both of those being well handicapped on their old form. Superefficient hasn’t quite lived up to her billing so far and the chances of handicap debutants Heavey and CALVANIST make more appeal. The first-named of that duo needs to bounce back from a poor run last time but the latter has improved with each hurdles run and looks nicely treated for a test that should really suit.
  1. Calvinist
  2. Just Call Me Al
  3. Trapper Peak
