Dalkingstown15
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-5| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen
11/8
Dual point-to-point scorer (3m); game winner of a Worcester bumper (2m, good to soft) on rules/stable debut in July; consistent in defeat since under his incurred penalty; contender.
2
Horse silk
Danny Archer154
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: R Johnson| T: G Elliott
3/1
Court Cave gelding (cost €15,000 as a 3yo); brought down on debut at Fairyhouse, and struggled to make his mark (50-1) in a competitive Punchestown bumper just nine-days later; this looks to be a more realistic objective.
5
Horse silk
Faruzi
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: R P McLernon| T: P R Webber
13/2
Unraced fourth foal from a French dam (half-sister to the 2m hurdle winner Vertueux); half-brother to the useful 1m7f French hurdle winner Daryasi.
6
Horse silk
100/1
Cost a mere £800 as a 3yo; sent off at 200-1 when last of ten in a Southwell bumper (1m7f+, good) in March; blinkers now applied; a likely back-marker with a hurdles career awaiting.
7
Horse silk
Master Newton223
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: G Lee| T: Micky Hammond
25/1
€38,000 foal; didn't show a great deal of promise in two bumper starts for Phil Kirby; returns from a 223-day absence in the care of Middleham handler Micky Hammond (also saddles Wild Gypsy Boy).
Cost €200,000 as a yearling, presumably with a Flat career in mind (brother to the 1m2f German winner Chalcot); kept on encouragingly (25-1) when fourth to Enlighten at Kelso (2m, good) in February; of interest.
10
Horse silk
8/1
Weakened on rules/bumper debut at Listowel (2m, yielding) last month, finishing eighth of 11 to Janet's Charm; may find this race to be an easier option; champion jockey Richard Johnson is an eye-catching booking.
11
Horse silk
25/1
Second foal from the winning hurdler Vinetta; half-sister to the 2m3f hurdle winner Sweet Vinetta (also with Gillian Boanas); should benefit from this initial racecourse experience.

Forecasts

Dalkingstown (11/8), Danny Archer (3/1), Definite Warrior (7/2), Faruzi (13/2), Order Of Thistle (7/1), Bold Pearl (8/1), Wild Gypsy Boy (16/1), Enzillerya (16/1), Master Newton (25/1), Lady Vinetta (25/1), Mally Collier (100/1)

Verdict

Peter Bowen's Worcester winner Dalkingstown is a likeable type, although under an incurred penalty he does remain vulnerable to anything with a degree of potential. Brian Hughes rides the rules debutant Definite Warrior (a £40,000 purchase) for Brian Ellison, while the Champion Jockey Richard Johnson is aboard the Irish-raider Bold Pearl (Gavin Cromwell 3-5; 60% at Sedgefield) who has her sights lowered from Listowel. However, the most interesting runner is the Fitri Hay-owned ORDER OF THISTLE. Although his Kelso fourth to Enlighten mightn't necessarily be the strongest form on offer, there were plenty of positives to take from that opening effort.
  1. Order Of Thistle
  2. Definite Warrior
  3. Bold Pearl
