107-rated hurdler (won once) beaten 21L on chase debut into eighth at Galway. Can perhaps improve second time up but others boast stronger claims.
Scored over hurdles two runs back at Limerick (3m). Was unable to follow it up when he finished third of 10 at Bellewstown (3m). Stepping down in trip for his second appearance over fences. One for the shortlist.
Placed in four of his six starts over fences and seconds at Downpatrick and Kilbeggan the last twice suggest maiden success is now imminent over fences. Leading contender for this prize.
Former Flat performer one of the best of these runners over hurdles. Not assured that he is suited by fences given his background but in the right hands to successfully transition so must be respected.
Useful sort over hurdles but unseated on chase debut and beaten 21L into fifth subsequently. Chance there's more to come yet but others more compelling.
Off the mark over hurdles when last seen at Ballinrobe in May and won in good style too by 10L. Lightly raced for his age so best days may still be ahead and an interesting recruit to chasing now.
Clonmel maiden hurdle winner (fourth start) when last seen in March remains a youngster of potential. The sort to be better still over fences and no surprise if he goes well now.
Among the best of these over hurdles but never made the frame in 12 starts over fences. That said his last five starts have all been in valuable handicaps and he passed the post first before being disqualified at Kilbeggan last season.
Impressed around the turn of the year when landing a Punchestown bumper and maiden hurdle. Generally well held in a couple of novice hurdles since, but more than likely to be suited by the switch to fences for in-form yard.
Former Flat performer was a respectable fourth on chasing debut at Galway last month and he jumped pretty soundly there too. In quite a wide-open contest he is not one to rule out.
Forecasts
Fred The Foot (11/4), Lever Du Soleil (3/1), The Caddy Rose (11/2), Knock On Steel (7/1), Mastermind (9/1), Timiyan (10/1), Monstrosity (12/1), Noureev (16/1), Cats For Cash (20/1), Kuiper Belt (25/1)
After back-to-back seconds KNOCK ON STEEL can put his experience to good use here and get off the mark over fences at the seventh time of asking in an open looking contest. Timiyan arguably has the best form although that came over a year ago now and recent form is less compelling; Fred The Foot is another obvious sort and more open to improvement than the aforementioned duo.
- Knock On Steel
- Timiyan
- Fred The Foot
