First three starts over fences have left a little to be desired producing dismal efforts on each occasion. Hard to place any faith in.

Well beaten when finishing down the field in four career beginners efforts so far. Requires a chunk of improvement to play a role in proceedings here.

Plenty to like about the geldings progression in the last couple of months, getting off the mark at the seventh time of asking in a Wexford handicap off a 9lb lower mark earlier this month. Will look to progress once again.

Running well in defeat in a number of starts last year but the gelding remains without success in nine runs over the larger obstacles to date. Not seen since December and easy to oppose again.

Eight-race maiden over fences, the Shantou mare finished in midfield of a 13-runner handicap chase at Tramore before finishing fifth of 16 at Wexford when last seen in June. Others preferred.

Sole win in 13 starts over fences came in a Thurles handicap in December over 3m½f off a 4lb higher mark. Well beaten in a number of starts over the summer and hard to make a case for.

Seven-race maiden in the Point-To-Point sphere, and hard to make a case for following a below-par efforts at Wexford and on his most recent start at Tramore last month.

No impression three out before being pulled up on latest chase start at Tramore over 2m5½f on soft ground last month. Vast improvement needed to figure.

Second of 18 beaten 1¼L at Tipperary in July looks a bit of a one-off based on a number of dismal efforts either side of that performance. Not the most reliable of types and worth opposing.

Winner of this contest 12 months ago beating six rivals ¾L off a 2lb lower mark. Latest win came over 2m6f at Tramore in May and the mare looks on an attractive enough mark to get competitive again.

17-race maiden over fences but running well in defeat in a couple of starts this season, more notably when second of nine beaten 17L at Wexford over 3m1f earlier this month. Not to be taken lightly.

Forecasts

Open To The World (9/4), Rudy Catrail (4/1), Daisy Chicks (7/1), Crutches Lad (8/1), Glacial Shadow (9/1), Quiet Account (10/1), Loch Luatha (12/1), Doran The Legend (14/1), Maureen's Star (14/1), Bishops Quarter (16/1), Madaboy Cross (20/1), Clorinka (25/1), Shanklys Dawn (25/1)

Verdict

Winner of this contest 12 months ago, Shanklys Dawn will look to retain his crown still running off an attractive looking mark. The eight-year-old though has been badly out of form over the summer and may have to settle for place money behind the in form and recent Wexford winner, RUDY CATRAIL. The 9lb penalty for the eight-year-old may not be enough to halt progress following his first chase win at the seventh attempt and can see of his nearest pursuers in the shape of Glacial Shadow, second behind the selection at Wexford and Crutches Lad who could be of interest on handicap debut.
  1. Rudy Catrail
  2. Glacial Shadow
  3. Shanklys Dawn
