Comfortable winner of a 1m7f handicap at this track on his penultimate outing before running well below form last time out at Galway; need to bounce back from that to get competitive.

Just the one success in 30 attempts, tailed off last of five on latest racecourse appearance at Killarney in August; no real reason to see why he should improve to land this contest in current mood.

Lightly-raced maiden without a win in 10 starts on the Flat. Will need to raise overall profile to play a role here.
Has been tried over hurdles to little effect, over fences to no success and his point-to-point for is pretty ropey to boot. Hard to make a case for on Flat debut.
Sketchy overall form at best; tailed off at Tipperary in April but improved performance at Tramore last time out in August; maybe the penny has dropped but hard to fancy too strongly.

Veteran who was beaten by over 30 lengths on his only Flat start in July; was previously a decent hurdler not not much of a betting proposition these days.

Winner of a number of hurdle races but flat form is decidedly weaker with just one maiden win to his name (four years ago); the field is poor, however, he may have fair place claims.

Mountain High gelding, won a low-grade bumper at Worcester in June on debut but then beaten 72 lengths finishing 6/6 on only Flat appearance at Killarney in August; hard to assess his chances.

Last seen out in Grade 3 hurdle at Limerick in late 2018; had some reasonable Flat form in the distant past and probably as good as they come in this race.

Most experienced Flat performer in the field but still looking for his first win. Has a couple of placed efforts to his name so not a no-hoper but recent form does not suggest he will be winning anytime soon.

Has won three hurdle races in his career but has not faired as well over fences recently; makes Flat debut here and hard to see him being good enough.

Winner of three of his 23 Flat starts on turf. Three recent dismal efforts suggests he is not in the best frame of mind at present and can hardly be backed with confidence.

Forecasts

Saglawy (5/6), Newcross (11/4), Play The Game (3/1), Rough Terain (20/1), The Ballyboys (25/1), Tomahawk Kid (50/1), Balaclava (66/1), Cocoroco (66/1), Stealth (66/1), Captain Commander (66/1), Coolmill (66/1), Athenry Boy (100/1)

Verdict

Very difficult to make a coherent case about any of these runners. NEWCROSS needs to bounce back from a poor run last time out but he should be capable of that and has the best form in the race. Saglawy is the classiest racehorse in the field and despite a long absence from the track could play a leading role. Play The Game may be the one chasing them home given he has a won on the level in the past.
