Course winner over fences when he was going great guns in 2017; has produced a rather mixed bag of performances since then (one chase win). Mark continues to fall; made a step back in the right direction last time (given plenty to do); of interest.
Hardly thrown in off this mark with his one hurdles win coming in novice company (presented with the race at the last) at Kelso last December. Two creditable runs since in handicaps (both off a 1lb higher mark); should get involved though.
Yet to win under Rules (0-14) but hard to ignore for such a leading yard with her two latest attempts (both over C&D) suggesting that she's capable of winning a race. Beaten 10L off this mark last time; not out of events and respected.
Temperament looked to be getting the better of her lately; now makes her stable debut for a yard that have turned similar types around before. All headgear removed having worn some form in her last five starts; not badly handicapped on her best form.
Course specialist (won here six times); try to score beyond 2m4f anywhere though, this trip looks to stretch him. Form since his win here in May (2m4f, good/firm) has a rather sketchy look to it; looks vulnerable off this mark and over this trip.
Slipped back below his last winning mark but has stacked up a fairly long losing sequence in the time that reduced mark has been gained. Needed the run over C&D last time (not unduly punished); this run should reveal more of what to expect.
The test of stamina that he was given on his handicap debut allowed him to produce something more akin to his bumper form; third at Newcastle (2m6f). Failed to show anything like that form in two further stamina tests; returns from a break.
Forecasts
Holy Motivation (3/1), Big Penny (3/1), Mighty Thunder (4/1), Lord Ballim (4/1), Green Zone (8/1), Pinspot (12/1), Letemgo (28/1)
Not a strong event and if ever Holy Motivation was going to break her maiden this surely offers her a golden opportunity having posted two creditable efforts over C&D. The fact remains she was beaten 10L last time and LORD BALLIM off a mark that is 9lb below the one he was seen winning off over fences in 2018 appeals more. He showed last time that was coming back to form and his Southern-based trainer does well on his forays North. Mighty Thunder should be able to run his usual sound race and rates a danger despite a mark that doesn’t allow him much scope. A market move for the well-handicapped Big Penny would be interesting, her yard having turned around such quirky sorts before.
- Lord Ballim
- Holy Motivation
- Mighty Thunder
