Only beaten once in three starts this year making light of a six-month absence to score over C&D last time despite running in snatches (may well come on for the run). Saw the trip out well for his third course win; has to improve again off 6lb more.

Dual course winner during a real purple patch in 2017 (won twice over 1m3f) but not won since that spell. Not much to write home about this season, run poorly on most starts (including over hurdles); tried in various headgear of late, none on here.

Won a minor AW event (1m2f) earlier in the year (with James Tate at the time); below form (first try on turf) on debut for this yard. Ran with a little more verve when last seen (bumped into on-song winner); interesting back on AW off same mark.

Course winner but one with a losing sequence that is starting to lengthen (last win came in 2017). Apart from on his first start for this yard he's offered little in the six starts he's had for them; takes a very big rise in trip; hard to recommend.

Promising individual although she hasn't taken off like some have from this yard; run well since winning at Chelmsford in early August over 1m. Increasingly looked in need of a more thorough test, gets that here; just failed over 1m3f here last time.

7/4
Handicap newcomer from a yard who do well with this sort; shaped as if needing the run last time (turf debut off six-month break). Looks to have been brought along with this test in mind, mark looks reasonable, market to give more clues.

Blinkers return (lit-up in them the first time they were used) having fared poorly without them last time. Only a fair maiden though and faces a stiff task from 3lb out of the weights against some improving 3yo's; others more persuasive.

Spirit Of Angelp14
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: Andrea Atzeni| T: M P Tregoning| OR:  64
20/1
Improved to get off the mark when winning over 1m2f at Chelmsford in May off a 3lb lower mark (showed a good attitude). Not found the same performance level in two recent starts (first-time cheekpieces worn last time; retained); marginal appeal.

Forecasts

Dobrianka (7/4), Alma Linda (9/4), Sir Prize (3/1), Water's Edge (7/1), Spirit Of Angel (20/1), Moayadd (20/1), Mr Minerals (33/1), Nordic Flight (40/1)

Verdict

With three-year-olds delivering a 1-2-3 last year having made up half of the field it’s that age group that should be examined first. ALMA LINDA hasn’t quite shown the progressive nature of another Sir Mark Prescott runner on this card (Land Of Oz) but she’s moving forward in her own way with this trip expected to suit well. Of the others in this age group Dobrianka is the most interesting making her handicap debut in good hands and expected to take a step forward in this sphere. Water’s Edge give the three-year-olds another chance of completing a clean sweep but that may be scuppered by Sir Prize who goes well here and showed that he was in good fettle last time.
  1. Alma Linda
  2. Dobrianka
  3. Sir Prize
