Bounced back to somewhere near the form that he showed when winning over 7f on good ground at Carlisle earlier in the year at Sandown last time (wore first-time visor). Slight worry on this ground (last soft ground effort, finished last).
Looked a useful performer as a 2yo, won over 6f second start but has gone the wrong way this year after wind surgery (well beaten on three occasions). Plummeting in the handicap (14lb below initial mark); showing little sign of taking advantage.
Took advantage of a track bias to win at Carlisle in May (7f) off 2lb lower but not really seen to best effect in three starts since. Caught too far back when beaten by Ramesses last time (first-time blinkers); needs everything to drop right.
Goes from strength-to-strength recording his fourth win of the year last time with a C&D victory (from the front as usual). This will be tougher back in a handicap (claimer last time) off a career high mark; could get the run of the race.
Both 7f wins this year have come on better ground than he will face here but failed to fire on soft at York last time (did find some trouble also in-running). Eased slightly in grade the conditions temper enthusiasm for his chance; others preferred.
Last Year's Winner
Ramesses (2/1), Howzer Black (3/1), Ollivander (10/3), I Am A Dreamer (5/1), Fuente (13/2), Shining Armor (20/1)
- Howzer Black
