Found Group/Listed company too hot to handle but relished the step down in grade when bolting up in 5f Ayr novice last month. Hard to beat if replicating that form on first start in conditions company.

Showed natural progression from debut effort with ¾L success at Pontefract (5f, good) last month. Likely to be better between 6f-7f in time but commands respect.

C&D winner on debut in April but bombed out when 10L last in 5f Sandown Listed contest on latest start. Had wind surgery after that run and has to contend with a lengthy absence but considered. Wears first-time tongue-tie.

Sent off 100/1 for debut and finished a well-beaten last of seven in 5f Ayr contest won by Makyon. This looks a tough ask.

Verdict

A strong-looking conditions contest in which speed will be key, Makyon has shown an aptitude for forcing the pace in his races and looked a class above his rivals at Ayr last time which entitles him to go close. He is unlikely to be given an easy time up front though with Bill Neigh, who thrives over C&D but could be bogged down by his 5lb penalty. Preference is for PROPER BEAU, whose form of his maiden win looks strong (second has won since) and there was obvious excuses for his latest run. He could be hard to beat if the wind surgery has done the necessary work.
  1. Proper Beau
  2. Makyon
  3. Bill Neigh
