Well bred filly with a stamina laden pedigree; 15/8f and lacked a change of gear when finishing fourth of six to The Corporal (beaten 3¾L) on handicap debut at Yarmouth (1m2f, good to firm) three weeks ago; AW debut.
From a Galileo mare (Between Us); made a pleasing start to her racing career when a close third (25-1) to Duneflower over 7f here last October; far less effective since but no surprise if new trip/handicapping shows her in a much better light.
C&D winner (July 2017); with the defection of Distant Chimes found a suitable opportunity to regain the winning thread at Redcar (1m6f), beating Jan De Heem by ½L; stable in form; 3lb higher.
Beaten just ½L at Carlisle (1m3f) on her penultimate start before taking a clear backward step at Yarmouth (1m6f); headgear (blinkers) on for AW debut seeking a return to form; can't be discounted.
Shamardal filly (170,000gns yearling); given an aggressive front-running ride by SDS on handicap debut at Windsor (1m3½f, good to firm) but was unable to fend off the favourite Cherry Cola; it's tough to apply those kind of tactics at Newcastle.
Returns to the Flat having tackled a couple of early season juvenile hurdles (Hexham and Market Rasen); hasn't achieved anywhere near enough to be playing a significant role in this contest; will struggle.
Forecasts
Scheme (2/1), Soloist (10/3), Donnachies Girl (7/2), Earth And Sky (5/1), Scenesetter (7/1), Lady Shanawell (16/1)
A tricky contest in which only Lady Shanawell can be confidently dismissed. Both Soloist and Scenesetter have taken a step forward since going handicapping. However, Graham Lee will need to be at his brilliant best in order to steer home the latter if electing to set a scorching early pace. Scheme ticks plenty of boxes over today's new trip and the market could offer the best guide, while the 'old girl' Donnachies Girl is a C&D winner representing an in-form trainer. Nevertheless, the tentative vote goes to the stamina laden filly EARTH AND SKY who was caught flat footed after leading at Yarmouth (1m2f). She should relish this more galloping track.
