2-2. Now takes a rise in class after scoring in stylish fashion at Gowran Park (1m1f; good) on his seasonal reappearance. Fascinating contender who could handle this transition to pattern class with the minimum of fuss.
Fair start to life for new stable when third in 'Listed' race at Down Royal (1m6f; good). Doesn't win very often but has scored over C&D in the past and could run well from an each-way perspective.
2018 Irish Derby hero been progressing with each start this year. Seasonal best when denied a neck by Twilight Payment in the Curragh Cup over 1m6f on Irish Derby weekend most recently. Could be about to hit peak form.
More exposed than most in the lineup, but hard to fault recent efforts in defeat in Premier Handicap/Listed company. Does have a little bit to find with his rivals on official ratings.
Can rule out both of the duck eggs on his profile which came in the Prix Du Jockey Club and Belmont Derby (both Group 1's). Excellent record at this level with two runner-up efforts when pitched into Group 3 company. Huge player.
Concerns that he hadn't trained on at the start of this campaign. However, he has bounced back to form with a win in Listed company at the Curragh (1m2f; good to yielding) which was followed up with a fine effort when fifth in the Irish Derby.
Forecasts
Latrobe (9/10), Broad Street (7/2), Guaranteed (9/2), Blenheim Palace (8/1), Giuseppe Garibaldi (20/1), Massif Central (22/1)
A quality renewal of this Group 3 contest, with Broad Street the most interesting contender in the field. He is unbeaten in two starts, and the manner of his victory upon seasonal return suggested he can cope with the step up in class. Another name to note is Blenheim Palace who has his sights lowered after running in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby in America. He has proved on a couple of occasions that he is more than capable of competing at this level, and should appreciate the return to calmer waters. However, this also represents a drop in grade for LATROBE who produced a seasonal best when last seen which strongly suggested that his turn may be near.
- Latrobe
- Broad Street
- Blenheim Palace
