Won on his last appearance of last season over 6f at Catterick; returns after lengthy absence; still looks reasonably handicapped and one for the shorlist if fit first time up.
Front runner; stable/jockey combination won this event last year; excellent effort to win over course and distance two starts ago (good-to-firm) but below par last time at York. Expected soft ground an unknown but leading chance nonetheless.
Standout effort this season when third at Doncaster in May, but he's failed to kick on since; last win came on a soft surface and now 5lb below last winning mark; interesting.
Hit a purple patch last summer, winning three times, but she struggled to make a similar impact until showing signs of a return when 3rd of 16 recently at York. Definite chance on best of her form and relishes a soft surface.
Has shown some consistency of late to suggest she could be soon back to winning ways and only slightly higher in the handicap than when winning at Pontefract last month; chance on best of her form.
Ran well in defeat in three starts since winning over 6f at Thirsk (good) in May. Beaten 2L when fourth at Pontefract at the beginning of last month and one for the shortlist.
Put in a career best performance to score over course and distance on soft ground last month. Had previously been fairly unreliable but if connections have found the key to her then she could go close.
Ran disappointingly at Ayr last time but that followed three consistent and good efforts here. Seems best suited by this track so could easily bounce back. Would not want the ground too soft.
Easy to pass over given he races from nearly two stone out of the handicap and is still a maiden after 22 starts.
Forecasts
Cool Spirit (11/4), Cale Lane (7/2), Dancing Rave (13/2), Scuzeme (13/2), Yes You (15/2), Lucky Lucky Man (8/1), Airglow (9/1), Jordan Electrics (10/1), Zizum (100/1)
If acting on the predicted soft surface then COOL SPIRIT holds every chance on the basis of his course and distance win in May. The stable won this event last season and could make it a 1-2 with Lucky Lucky Man rating the main danger based on his current handicap mark and his ability on a soft surface. Yes You has started to show better form of late at Ayr and York. He is another who has won with give in the ground. Scuzeme has been running well in defeat of late and seems to have excellent place claims though there are doubts whether he will act if further rain falls.
- Cool Spirit
- Lucky Lucky Man
- Yes You
