Clung on grimly when prevailing by a nose in the Northumberland Vase here and was a good fifth last time in this year's Plate. Remains on a competitive mark and drop in trip isn't an issue. Down in grade and a leading contender.
Battling win Haydock last month and stays this trip fine. Struggled once again in Class 2 company last time and this is his grade. Remains on a winnable mark and respected on AW debut.
Barring one poor run at Kempton two starts back, he's on a consistent run of form and was close to his best on his last try at this C&D in April. Last win though came in 2017 off 3lb lower and he'll probably find a couple better handicapped again.
On a good run of form on the AW and now makes course debut. Up another 1lb making a total rise of 11lb following three starts this year. Concern would be that he hasn't convinced in two starts beyond 1m2f.
Followed up a success over an extended 1m4f at Musselburgh with a 2L third over an extended 1m5f at Chester. Below that in two starts since and while she's a C&D winner, she'll need to be at her best off this mark.
C&D winner in March 2017 but without a success since. 5lb lower nowadays and while he's returned with two solid enough fourth placed efforts, this is tougher still.
On a sharp upward curve in winning two from four so far. Made all in a quick time for a dominant win up the Pontefract hill over 1m2f that suggests this trip will bring further progress. Unexposed and despite 8lb rise, he rates as the one to beat.
Forecasts
Derevo (5/6), Lexington Empire (11/2), Al Hamdany (11/2), Claire Underwood (15/2), Cosmelli (12/1), Final (14/1), Finniston Farm (25/1)
DEREVO looks ahead of the handicapper and there's a lot to like how he's improved with every start so far for his powerful connections. Cosmelli ran well in the Northumberland Plate last time and clearly likes it here. Finniston Farm is a better horse down in this grade and remains on a decent mark. Al Hamdany is reliable and unlikely to be far away.
