Appreciated a return to calmer waters when winning at Perth in April (showed a more willing attitude; can be quirky); remains 4lb above that mark. Last two efforts back up in grade have been very tame, looking more and temperamental/less interested.

Five-time hurdle winner who was rather fortunate to open his chase account at Perth last time (not really bred to be a chaser). Left with what looked to be a simple task last time (made hard work of getting job done); visor on first-time.

Plenty of chase experience (winner at Cheltenham for Fergal O'Brien); fit from couple of moderate Flat starts when producing a near career-best at Uttoxeter last time (3m2f). Travelled better than usual (can be lazy); big player based on that run.

Rejuvenated the last twice with hurdles/chase wins coming his way over 2m6f here and 3m at Ffos Las. Hurdles win here came as a surprise (race rather fell in his lap) whilst he looked in better heart last time; up 7lb needs to be in the same mood.

Forecasts

Dr Robin (6/4), Winter Lion (6/4), Red Giant (11/2), William Of Orange (6/1)

Verdict

None of the quartet are bombproof with Red Giant looking more and more reluctant since his Perth win and he’s got work to do with WINTER LION on the basis of their Uttoxeter form last time. John O’Shea’s charge ran an excellent race last time travelling better than he usually does and a repeat of that run would be good enough to win here providing he takes to this unique test. Dr Robin we know likes it around here having scored over hurdles on his penultimate start despite looking rather lazy although he was in better heart back over fences last time. William Of Orange is well handicapped on his hurdles form but so far hasn’t really convinced over the bigger obstacles.
  1. Winter Lion
  2. Dr Robin
  3. William Of Orange
