Betway Novices' Hurdle

Off time: 13:35 | Winning time: 4m 41.50s

Gunnery³²

Age: 6| Weight: 10-12| J: N de Boinville| T: N J Henderson| BF

1/6

Last seen out in 2m4f event at Royal Ascot where he finished well down a decent field in the Ascot Stakes; clear form pick based on his only hurdles appearance when finishing second in a fair race at Bangor. Looks the one to beat.

Form: 2

Luduamf¹¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 10-12| J: Jamie Brace⁽⁷⁾| T: M C Chapman

200/1

Has finished stone last on his last four appearances on a racetrack and highly unlikely to be good enough to win this.

Form:

Real King⁴⁶

Age: 7| Weight: 10-12| J: Adam Wedge| T: C T Pogson

25/1

Looks a challenging ride and has failed to finish in either of his hurdle appearances to date. Ran with promise in a bumper a few years ago so not without talent but hard to see him winning.

Form: 3/UP

Robin Of Sherwood¹⁵

Age: 6| Weight: 10-12| J: S Bowen| T: D A Rees

5/1

Winning point-to-pointer; disappointed on debut under rules in a chase at Ffos Las three weeks ago before running marginally better over hurdles last time out. Capable of giving the favourite most to do.

Form: 2/1P-163

Size Matters¹⁵

Age: 5| Weight: 10-12| J: Callum Bewley| T: M E Sowersby

25/1

Is fit from recent runs at Beverley but showed little on his only hurdles appearance at this track in May; hard to see him getting competitive.

Form: 4

The Chipper^b1²⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 10-9| J: J M Quinlan| T: Miss A Murphy

25/1

Pulled up on only racecourse appearance - always in rear and lost touch after halfway; hard to see him figuring here unless first-time blinkers do the trick.

Form: P

Yorbelucky^t¹¹

Age: 4| Weight: 10-9| J: T J O'Brien| T: Ian Williams

28/1

Had fair form on the Flat in the distant past but has failed to sparkle in two recent outings over hurdles. Does not look a likely winner but may run into a place.

Form: 88

Forecasts

Gunnery (1/6), Robin Of Sherwood (5/1), Real King (25/1), Size Matters (25/1), The Chipper (25/1), Yorbelucky (28/1), Luduamf (200/1)

An excellent chance for GUNNERY to win his first race at the second time of asking but given the level of opposition don't expect a decent price from the bookies. His Bangor form is head and shoulders above his rivals and it would be a mighty surprise to see him getting beat. Robin Of Sherwood looks the best of the rest given he was not beaten too far in a maiden hurdle at Newton Abbot two weeks ago.
