Proving to be a disappointing sort over both sets of obstacles for this leading yard; pulled up last time despite being strong in the betting and fitted with first-time cheekpieces. Mark continues to slide; unproven beyond 2m; comes with risks.

Improved run-to-run in novice/maiden hurdles; no surprise to see him strong in the market for his handicap debut (reported to have bled/lost a shoe). Needs to be forgiven that mishap but remains with potential for handicaps.

Given a chance by the handicapper he's looked as though he's capable of winning off this mark in two of his last three starts. Third at Ffos Las last time (would have benefitted from a stronger gallop) he has claims if repeating that effort.

Form in bumpers was unconvincing but he has shown some mild ability in novice hurdles although his last couple of starts have seen him heading in the wrong direction. Bought very cheaply £800 in May; now makes handicap/stable debut.

Returned to form when picking up a weak Fontwell maiden hurdle having always looked the type to run well in handicaps over hurdles. Proved that to be the case when runner up at Uttoxeter last time to an improving sort; should go well off same mark.

Shaped well on his stable/GB debut over hurdles having won twice in Ireland last year for his former trainer. In good hands and just the type that this yard do well with and improve; fancied to build on his Uttoxeter fourth from last time.

Showed that there may well be some ability left in his locker after missing plenty of action having won twice at the backend of 2017. Had a wind op since then an may just be working his way back to full fitness; mark reduced, one to keep in mind.

Fair form on his first couple of starts over hurdles in novice company but didn't show much when switched to handicaps after those outings. Well held on a couple of Flat starts of late, now returns to hurdles with the handicapper relenting slightly.

Made very little impact when trained in Ireland in five starts over hurdles; similar story for this yard in two starts. Possibly excused the first outing (may have needed the run) but went backwards last time at Newton Abbot; hard to justify backing.

Like many recruits to this yard improved for the change of scenery/wind op to win on her stable debut at Market Rasen. Looked a hard ride for a conditional (stable jockey takes over); escapes a penalty and has leading claims in follow-up bid.

Bumper winner who has consistent enough for the most part over hurdles but has only won one race (1-18). Only run twice since winning at Carlisle (March 2018); shaped as though better for run last time (trip too far); more expected back at 2m4f.

Forecast

Montys Angel (5/6), Show And Go (4/1), Slaine (8/1), Murphy's Law (8/1), Caro Des Flos (14/1), Bobble Emerald (20/1), Pixiepot (28/1), Embole (33/1), Write It Down (40/1), Jesse Jude (66/1), Sir Tivo (80/1)

Verdict

One or two interesting sorts in this that could conceivably bustle up MONTYS ANGEL but she runs off the same mark as when winning at Market Rasen and with Harry Skelton taking over from conditional William Marshall she looks the one to beat. Murphy’s Law looks capable in this sphere but does need to bounce back from his handicap debut mishap while Bobble Emerald and Pixiepot can have more expected of them, the former is a C&D winner. Perhaps the biggest dangers will come from Show And Go who the Newland yard are getting to grips with and Slaine a good second last time at Uttoxeter where she travelled well against an improving sort.
  1. Montys Angel
