3A's Leisure Super Site At Nantyci Carmarthen Maiden Hurdle

Off time: 20:20 | Winning time: 4m 56.90s

Diamond Reggie²²

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: S Bowen| T: P & M Bowen

4/1

Well beaten on his hurdles debut he came back to racing under Rules vis a fall in his only point-to-point with a creditable effort over C&D (fourth). That race was a muddling affair (home straight hurdles omitted); needs The Cashel Man to falter.

Form: 3787/F4

Norwegian Woods¹⁸⁴

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: Alan Johns| T: Tim Vaughan

33/1

Took an Irish point-to-point by 5L but his Rules form has so far failed to come anywhere near that level. Well beaten in a Chepstow bumper (stable/Rules debut), his hurdles debut wasn't any better struggling from early on.

Form: 1/67-

The Cashel Man⁵⁷

Age: 7| Weight: 11-0| J: J McGrath| T: N J Henderson| OR: 130| BF

1/8

Certainly not straightforward but has shown himself to be useful on the Flat on occasions (last run in May was well below-par). Arguably better form over hurdles despite not winning as yet and ought to accomplish a simple task here.

Form: 222-

Volturnus³⁰⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 11-0| J: L P Aspell| T: O Sherwood

20/1

Flat form consists of three low-grade AW wins at up to 2m but made an indifferent start to his hurdling career for when with Sean Lycett over a couple of different distances. Shaped like a non-stayer at 2m7f, now back from absence with a new yard.

Form: 96-

Carpool¹⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 10-7| J: Isabel Williams⁽⁷⁾| T: Evan Williams

16/1

Couple of point-to-point runner-up spots to his name this spring (started favourite both times) before he made his Rules debut over hurdles here over 2m. Given a considerate introduction by today's rider; should show a little more today.

Form: 5F2-25

Forecasts

The Cashel Man (1/8), Diamond Reggie (4/1), Carpool (16/1), Volturnus (20/1), Norwegian Woods (33/1)

If THE CASHEL MAN is on his best behaviour this ought to be no more than an exercise canter given his Flat form and how he’s shaped over hurdles so far. Remember he was only narrowly beaten by subsequent Grade 1 winner Reserve Tank when last seen over hurdles. Diamond Reggie posted an improved performance last time but might find he has to jump some hurdles in the home straight this time. Carpool showed some ability in point-to-points and on his hurdles debut, the minor placings should be his.
