Moved onto the AW for her second run which showed a marked improvement on her debut effort over 6f moved up to 7f. Worn down close home last time she may appreciate being back at 6f, can put experience to good use; open to further progress.

Exceed And Excel filly out of a dam who was a juvenile winner at up to 1m plus runner-up in UAE 1000 Guineas and fourth in UAE Oaks. Yard already 19-43 with juveniles, perhaps more tellingly they have a 12-24 record with their newcomers.

Newcomer (€180,000 breeze-up purchase); half-sister to 2yo 1m winner Power Of Sates; dam placed at up to 1m4f. Eye-catching jockey booking for debut (yard 1-8 with juvenile debutantes this year); one to keep an eye on in the market.

At first glance she failed to improve from her debut but that would ignore the fact that she totally failed to handle the Dip on the Rowley Mile stepped up to 6f. Both her debut and second run have worked out well; something to prove.
Trainer runs two newcomers; this one an 85,000 guineas yearling, half-sister to 6f 2yo/7f winner Rich Approach. Dam French 7f winner from a useful family, trainer 5-21 with juveniles this year, 2-10 with debutants, market signals useful here.

Half-sister to juvenile 1m winner Voicemail out of a dam who was a French two-year-old 1m winner (half-sister to useful 1m1f-1½m winner Demolition). Trainer 3-12 with newcomers this year, in good hands; good market vibes would increase confidence.

One of two runners for the trainer (both newcomers); 175,000 guineas foal, closely related to smart winner up to 7f Hatta Fort and half-sister to numerous winners. Dam 1m1f winner, holds potential looking at her pedigree, yard going well with 2yo.

Failed to build on what looked a promising debut from Carlisle (fourth) when only sixth at Catterick last time (not seen to best effect; failed to settle early on). Not unduly punished but will find redemption harder to find in this stronger contest.

Looks to be the weakest of the seven newcomers in the field having cost only 4,000 guineas as a yearling. Dam maiden half-sister to useful 7f winner Carniolan; trainer 4-111 with juveniles in the last five seasons; probably best to observe.

Forecasts

Dubai Paradise (10/11), Daily Times (7/2), East Of Eden (8/1), Led Astray (8/1), Charming Spirit (8/1), Fast And Free (12/1), Falconidae (16/1), Miss Lucy (20/1), Farewell Kiss (20/1), Sea Willow (66/1)

Verdict

This generally turns out to be a useful event and this year it’s dominated by newcomers with six in the now nine strong field. Godolphin and particularly Charlie Appelby have done well in the maidens at this meeting (have taken the last two runnings of this) and DUBAI PARADISE could well give them a hat-trick. Of the other debutants both the Michael Bell protagonists are of interest with preference for Led Astray. Fast And Free along with East Of Eden are two other newcomers for whom market support would be of interest. Of those with experience Daily Times sets the standard, she remains open to further progress dropping back in trip to 6f.
  1. Dubai Paradise
  2. Led Astray
  3. Daily Times
