Debut AW bumper winner who didn't need to improve on his initial hurdles effort when scoring at Huntingdon looking like one who would find more progressive form in time. Does need to improve under a penalty with a tough rival to overcome.

None in this field would have matched his Flat form; came as no surprise to see him make a successful hurdling debut following wind surgery. That Southwell win has already been franked by the second; comes late to hurdling, has scope to improve.

Had a wind op before starting his career but he's shown very little sign of any real ability in an assortment of events under Rules. Hard to see him getting involved having been thumped 86L last time at Perth.

Game Risk16
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-12| J: Miss C R Crane(7)| T: C Grant

Disqualified from his point-to-point win at Witton Castle because of an identification mix-up (has been placed in two events in that sphere). Recent Rules run over hurdles only marks him out as poor though; surprise if he contends.

Five Flat wins show that he has ability if not as much as the likes of Pacify in that discipline. Showed plenty to work on over hurdles from his debut (didn't settle that well); beaten 6L at Stratford, should get involved; does need to find more.

Baashat173
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-10| J: Harry Bannister| T: C J Mann
33/1
Newcomer to this sphere who makes her stable debut having run on the Flat for Ed Dunlop (sold for 11,000 guineas in May). Headgear worn for last eight Flat starts removed; now wears a first-time tongue-tie, best watched for now.

Bempton Cliffsh15
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-10| J: Alan Johns| T: S Allwood
33/1
Well beaten in bumpers and one AW Flat outing for Tony Coyle his two hurdles starts for this yard have been blighted by his tendency to pull too hard. Well behind Pacify on his latest start he'll need to learn to settle before he interests.

Handsome Bob15
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-10| J: Bryony Frost| T: N B King
50/1
An AW winner on the Fibresand over 1m3f last December adding to his two previous Flat wins he's yet to show much enthusiasm for hurdling. Well beaten by both major players in this contest already handicaps will be more his scenario.

Yorbeluckyt15
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-10| J: T J O'Brien| T: Ian Williams
50/1
Struggled on the Flat after winning a novice stakes as a two-year-old in testing conditions at Ffos Las over 7f. Well held behind Pacify (beaten 57L) on his hurdling debut, will need a miracle to reverse those placings.

Your Band126
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-10| J: L Treadwell| T: A Ralph
20/1
Staying type on the AW for Jamie Osborne he was subsequently sold for £13,000 last March and makes his stable/hurdles debut over this 2m trip. May well have the attributes for a successful hurdling career but given a tough start; trip sharp enough.

Forecasts

Pacify (1/1), Nimby (13/8), Thaqaffa (5/1), Your Band (20/1), Bempton Cliffs (33/1), Baasha (33/1), Yorbelucky (50/1), Handsome Bob (50/1), Game Risk (66/1), Amarone Gentleman (150/1)

Verdict

Hard to see past the two smart penalised last time out hurdles winners in a race that should prove informative but lacks any strength in depth. PACIFY is given the nod over Nimby to follow up his Southwell win his Flat pace tipping the scales in his direction over the Huntingdon scorer. Given Nimby already has a mark of 118 and Pacify is likely to get a higher mark not too many of these will be wanting to get too near to ruin their potential future handicap marks. Thaqaffa is the obvious choice for the minor placing but both Baasha and Your Band should be noted to see how they fare over hurdles on their respective debuts.
  1. Pacify
  2. Nimby
  3. Thaqaffa
