Highly promising reappearance run when third in a Class 3 at Newmarket (1m2f; good to firm) was somewhat let down when he was sixth at Kempton (1m3f; standard to slow). 2lb lower now and has bounced back from lesser runs in the past.

In poor form of late and failed to beat a single rival home in a five-runner affair at Lingfield (1m3f; good to firm) last time. Been given a short break since then but has plenty to prove on return from 47-day absence.

Travelled well and looked a live danger 2f out, but failed to find much at Newbury (1m4f; good to soft) in a higher grade. Posted a sound effort when runner-up over C&D the time before that, but again failed to find enough to get to the leader.

Back on track when displaying a willing attitude to grind out the victory at Newcastle (1m4f; standard to slow) last month. Up 3lb, but suspicion that he has plenty more to offer at this level/over this trip with yard in such good form.

Forecasts

Francophilia (11/8), Perfect Illusion (2/1), You're Hired (3/1), Hollywood Road (8/1)

Verdict

A small-field, but this contest is not short on intrigue. You're Hired must bounce back from a below-par effort at Kempton last time, but he would be entitled to go close if rediscovering the form he showed when third on seasonal return at Newmarket. Perfect Illusion doesn't tend to find as much off the bridle as one would expect, given how well he tends to travel in his races. If he was to get into a battle with one, namely the selection FRANCOPHILIA, there is little doubt about who would come out on top and that is why the Mark Johnston-trained runner is preferred after she dug deep to fend off her nearest pursuer at Newcastle when registering her second career win.
  1. Francophilia
  2. Perfect Illusion
  3. You're Hired
