Listed winner in May 2018 (Newbury); campaigned without joy in Meydan over the winter (6f-7f); low-key seventh of 11 in recent return to action in a Class 3 Chelmsford handicap (7f); is likely to struggle.
Very capable top-level handicapper who also has a Group 3 success on his CV (Newcastle's Chipchase Stakes in 2014); right at the very top of his game of late with an excellent third in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot (6f).
Found Group races a fraction too competitive in 2018 (0-4), although did manage to squeeze into the frame behind Invincible Army at Ascot in the Pavilion Stakes; wasn't disgraced after a slow start on seasonal reappearance at Goodwood; of interest.
Won five-times in handicaps during 2018 (inc over C&D), climbing the weights from a mark of 78 to 100; in similar shape in 2019; didn't finish far behind (fifth) today's rival Danzeno in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot (6f) - now 2lb worse off.
Won twice as a juvenile (6f); posted a career best effort when beaten 1¾L by Dark Vision in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood (7f); not so spectacular since; well beaten in three runs in 2019 (6f-1m); visor applied.
Forecasts
Danzeno (6/5), Summerghand (15/8), Enjazaat (9/2), Never Back Down (14/1), Dunkerron (20/1)
The proven handicapper Danzeno comes out top on official BHA figures (rated 105) and he had the measure of today's rival Summerghand in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot, although this five-runner conditions stakes race is admittedly a different test of a horse. With both Never Back Down and Dunkerron totally unconsidered given their recent poor form, the advice is to row in with the Owen Burrows-trained ENJAZAAT. He faced some very stiff tasks in 2018 including in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup, but if able to reproduce the form of his Group 3 Pavilion Stakes third to Invincible Army (May 2018) he'll go mightily close.
- Enjazaat
- Danzeno
- Summerghand
