Showed a level of form commensurate with his Catterick February win over C&D last time when taking the runner-up slot off a 2lb lower mark. Looked at home around here (five wins left-handed); should run another solid race.

Winner at Southwell earlier this week; bounced right back to his best to land a fair-sized gamble (ran very poorly the time before). Eased down to win by 7L to land his first chase win; hard to beat if in same form under a penalty.

Veteran chaser who revived all of a sudden in a long-distance veterans' handicap chase last time here over 3m5f on first start for this yard. This is likely to prove a lot tougher, up 5lb for that win; now faced with some younger and in-form rivals.

Course winner two years ago (same race that Al Co won this year). He's not the force of old but did run a fair race last time at Warwick (appears to run best there these days). Not sure to be in the same form this time away from his favourite venue.

4lb above his last winning mark, he ran with credit over a shorter trip (2m5f) here last time without his usual tongue-tie (left off again) but with blinkers on (retained). Well handicapped on his old form; he has a chance of making the frame.

In seemingly good form in point-to-points judged on form figures (2221221) but most of those figures were gained in small fields (well beaten in all the races he gained second). Did win by 5L last time; yet to win under Rules, mark hardly generous.

Left his hurdles form well behind post a wind op when winning on chase debut (first-time cheekpieces) at Plumpton in April off a lenient mark. Didn't quite make the expected progress last time but remains with potential off the same mark.

Forecasts

The Jam Man (4/6), Justforjames (7/1), No No Mac (8/1), Al Co (11/1), Silver Man (14/1), Ruperra Tom (14/1), Jeu De Mots (14/1), Jot'em Down (16/1)

Verdict

Connections appear to have found an ideal opportunity for THE JAM MAN to follow up his Southwell romp earlier in the week under just a 7lb penalty (sure to be going up more than that) over this slightly longer trip against some weak opposition. Past Scottish National winner Al Co came back to life here over further last time but its hard to think he’s going to improve at his advanced age. Justforjames sets a reasonable standard having acted well over C&D last time but he will do well to concede weight to all. Rupera Tom isn’t as good as his PTP form figures suggest the unexposed Jot’em Down the interesting “dark horse” in the contest.
  1. The Jam Man
