Came good at the third attempt over fences when winning by 5L at Warwick (3m1½f, good) last time. Up 9lb for that, but remains of interest and could still be ahead of the handicapper.

Dual hurdles winner at around 2m4f when with Charlie Longsdon. Couldn't add to that in just three runs for Kerry Lee, but was back in better form on her final run for that trainer. Since changed hands. Not ruled out of the money.

Improved significantly on his chase debut when winning here decisively (2m5f, good to soft) in a maiden hunter chase last month. Looks well treated on that evidence, so enters calculations.

Scored over hurdles at Hexham (2m7½f, good) last month, when 9lb lower. Held both starts in that sphere since, so no reverts to chasing for the first time since January 2018 with a fair bit to prove.

Won at Perth (3m, good) in May last year, when 6lb lower. Flopped next time out here over 2m5f. Then had wind surgery and was also beaten a long way on his recent reappearance. Plenty to prove.

1-27 over hurdles and so far 0-3 over fences. Did run well in this discipline when just over 3L fourth in an Ayr handicap in January. Would have a squeak if in that sort of form, but hard to be confident after recent hurdles efforts.

Pena Doradap33
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-2| J: Rachel McDonald(5)| T: A C Whillans| OR:  90| CD
40/1
C&D scorer, but hasn't achieved much since the end of 2016 and would be a surprise winner.

Made the frame just once in eight hurdles starts, and was beaten 28L on last month's Kelso chase debut. Return to further positive, as is trainer form, but still needs a leap of faith to side with him.
9
Horse silk
Lawtop Legendp13
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-13| J: Jonathon Bewley(3)| T: G Bewley| OR:  87
12/1
Hexham specialist who has been well held on his only two chase starts, both at that venue. Won a hurdle from this mark, so not a total write off, but others make more appeal based on chase efforts.

Age: 10|  Weight: 10-10| J: Henry Brooke| T: D Thompson| OR:  84

Sedgefield win in February remains his only one from 31 chases. Trip and ground no problem and he is only 2lb higher than that success, so can't be ruled out with confidence if back at that level.

Alto Des Mottesb41
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-9| J: Jamie Hamilton| T: H Hogarth| OR:  83| BF
16/1
Dual chase winner at Newcastle (2m7½f, soft/heavy), but without a win for well over two years. Went close at Uttoxeter when 6lb lower on his penultimate start, but well held back there from his mark last time.

Followed up a Hexham point win last month with a 2L success under rules at the same venue (3m). Acts on good, stamina no issue over this extra distance, and entitled to plenty of respect from 5lb higher.

Point winner this time last year, but pulled up next time over fences, and not easy to fancy on her latest effort over hurdles.

Forecasts

Dee Star (2/1), Dutch Canyon (4/1), Scottshill (5/1), John Daniell (6/1), Zara Hope (9/1), Lawtop Legend (12/1), Mash Potato (14/1), Shaiyzar (16/1), Alto Des Mottes (16/1), Witness (16/1), Sapphire Noire (20/1), Havana Jack (25/1), Braddan Head (33/1), Pena Dorada (40/1)

Verdict

Dee Star won with something in hand against maiden hunters last time and is respected, as this is probably not much tougher, while Dutch Canyon is another recent winner who can again give a good account. John Daniell should be thereabouts again, along with Zara Hope, but preference is for SCOTSHILL now that he has hit form.
