Course regular; 7lb higher than when beating Golden Jeffrey by 13L over C&D in May (good); found 2m on the sharp side when finishing just under 7L fourth to the 40/1 winner Ardera Cross a fortnight ago.
Formerly trained in Ireland by Tony Martin; generally poor since joining this yard for £11,500 in September 2018, hence a 15lb drop in the handicap; plenty of work to do with Green Zone on May C&D form.
21-race maiden (0-10 over hurdles); runner up on a couple of occasions in early 2019 (Naas and Wexford) but has headed in totally the wrong direction since; needs to raise his game markedly.
April Kelso hurdles winner (2m2f, good to soft); hasn't taken to fences and elected to refuse to race at Hexham last weekend (after a very messy start); ground versatile; stablemate of Gripper.
1m6f AW Flat winner for Ralph Beckett (August 2018); has made some limited progress over hurdles since joining this yard for 22,000gns in October 2018; could appreciate this extra yardage on handicap debut.
12-race maiden; reverts to hurdling after a largely unproductive spell over fences (2m4f-3m); relatively untested in handicaps over the smaller obstacles and it's possible that he's on a useful mark (9lb lower than over fences); noteworthy.
Has had plenty of trainers during a relatively short career (struggled for Dan Skelton, Tom Lacey and others); made all when winning a 3m PTP at Taylorstown (good) in April, and has since found his way to the in-form Keith Dalgleish.
Mare with a poor strike-rate (1-27), although she has admittedly worked her way back down the weights; 3lb lower than when finishing third (28/1) over 2m4½f on soft ground at Musselburgh in March.
18-race maiden; ran far better than the bare finishing positions imply at Wexford (2m4½f, good/yld) latest and it's still early days with this trainer; interesting to see if he attracts any market support; chance.
Both of his career wins have come at Perth (3m), although it should be noted that he hasn't run anywhere else since June 2018 (3155P2); 3lb higher than when headed on the run-in by Lough Kent over C&D last month.
Eight-race maiden with little worthwhile form; pulled up on both starts in handicap company (2m4f-3m); back in action following a three month break (for wind surgery).
14-race maiden; runner up on her final start for Sheena West at Fontwell (2m3f, soft) in February; poor so far for Phil Kirby (0-3), very much appearing to be not in love with the all too obvious delights of Hexham Racecourse.
Seven-race maiden with plenty of non-completions on her CV; more promising on her latest start at Market Rasen (2m4f+) when finishing 8L fourth of 12 to Stubborn Logic; needs to demonstrate that she can back that effort up.
36-race maiden who competes from miles outside of the handicap proper having not raced over hurdles since April 2016; holds no realistic chance.
Forecasts
Green Zone (5/2), Home Place (10/3), Amalfi Doug (6/1), Gripper (8/1), Country Delights (10/1), Reivers Lodge (10/1), Viscount Wilson (12/1), Karingo (12/1), Beau Et Sublime (14/1), Railway Muice (16/1), Fading Icon (25/1), Make It Happen (25/1), Jackofhearts (40/1), Ska Ridge (40/1)
A race which is best summed up by a single word, tough! The likes of Green Zone and Karingo are no strangers to these parts, with the former likely to be suited by stepping back up to a more suitable trip. Similar comments apply to the handicap debutante Gripper who rates as the clear pick of the Lucinda Russell-trained pair, while the unexposed PTP scorer Amalfi Doug should be very much monitored in the market for the bang-in-form Keith Dalgleish. However, although wary of the Daryl Jacob-ridden Home Place, a chance is taken on the 18-race maiden RAILWAY MUICE who hasn't been with Paul Flynn for long and ran reasonably well at Wexford 17 days ago.
- Railway Muice
- Gripper
