One of a brace of runners in this for the trainer with riding arrangements suggesting that this is his second string. Newcomer (cost 16,000 guineas, yearling) closely related to 6f winner Macarella and half-brother to several winners; best watched.

One of four with experience in this contest but didn't show much to make him of interest on his debut or second run. Steps up 2f in trip now having had a break and undergone a gelding operation; major improvement needed.

Looks the pick of the yard's two runners who are both making their debuts although this one cost only €4,000 as a yearling. Half-brother to 3 winners, including juvenile 7f winner Society Flight; market support needed.

7/1
One of two newcomers in this race for a yard that are flying with their juveniles this year (22 winners so far; looks second string. Dam was a winner at up to 1m6f so he may need a little further than this; already gelded for his debut.

Showed little when making an unpromising start to his career at Brighton over 6f finishing last of four, struggling before halfway. Would need to make a major step forward to get involved' makes limited appeal.

One of the lesser types amongst the newcomers having cost just £800 as a yearling. Half-brother to unreliable 1m winner Beart; dam juvenile 7f winner. Would need considerable market support to be of interest.

Stable won this last year although not with a newcomer and yard's juveniles have tended to come on for a run of late. Half-brother to 3 winners at 7f; out of dam that showed some fair form as a juvenile; worthy of a market check.

Horse silk
9/2
Looks to be the main contender for a yard who are always to be respected with their juvenile newcomers (23% strike-rate). Cost €14,000 as a yearling (withdrawn on intended debut, unruly in stalls); a must for any shortlist.

14/1
€15,000 yearling; half-sister to several winners including the useful sprinter Sugar Free out of a dam who won a German Listed winner as a juvenile. Pedigree means she is worth inspection although the yard is only 1-24 with newcomers of late.

Showed more than she had on her debut second time out although that's not saying much as the form (such as it is) isn't really worth much. Not disgraced last time but will be of more interest in low-grade nurseries.
Has the edge on this field in terms of experience and nicely drawn to put that trait to good use having had three starts already (placed in all of them). Good second here last start (6f); bred to be suited by this trip; has to be a major player.

25/1
Yard have a very poor strike-rate with their juvenile newcomers (5%). This fourth foal has a pedigree that suggests she will need some time and distance to show her true ability with other mounting more persuasive arguments.

Forecasts

Miss Matterhorn (5/4), Premium Bond (7/2), Mrs Dukesbury (9/2), Manap (7/1), Sweet Sixteen (14/1), Halfacrown (16/1), Craigburn (25/1), Wallaby (25/1), Forus (25/1), Gifted Dreamer (40/1), Kahpehlo (50/1), Moontide (50/1)

Verdict

The fact that Archi Watson has already had 22 juvenile winners this year with 12 first-time out winners makes his two newcomers Manap and Mrs Dukesbery of interest with the booking of Oisin Murphy for the latter looking to make that the pick of the duo. Richard Hannon won this last year with an experienced runner but this time he runs a newcomer (stable are 4-41 with newcomers this year) and Premium Bond may need this experience. All of that means that MISS MATTERHORN gets her best chance to open her account especially as she’s well drawn. Sweet Sixteen and Halfacrown would be of interest if the market spoke for them.
  1. Miss Matterhorn
  2. Mrs Dukesbury
  3. Premium Bond
