Last won in May last year at Hamilton (1m½f, good to firm), when 2lb lower, for Lawrence Mullaney. Largely out of sorts since, including on debut for this trainer. Drops in grade here, but needs to bounce right back.

1lb higher than when going close at Beverley (1m2f, good to soft), Other recent form not so encouraging, so plenty to prove.

Sole win was on AW (1m1½f) at Wolverhampton, from this mark, in January when with Mark Brisbourne. Has not come close to that effort since. Yet to race on soft ground, so has to prove he handles it on stable debut.

Sole win came in a Navan maiden (1m, good) for Dermot Weld. Best handicap run came two starts later, on soft ground, when ½L second at Navan. Step back in right direction latest, but plenty to prove.

Has won at both Carlisle (1m1f, soft) and here over C&D (heavy), the latter in a 0-70 two starts ago, when 3lb lower. Beaten favourite at Carlisle latest, but winner has run well again since, so can't discount him.

Pontefract maiden winner (6f, good) last September. Well beaten in three runs since, the middle one of those here over C&D (soft) in April. Also well held over hurdles since, and plenty to prove after those efforts.

Has shown some promise in three starts so far. Will need to show some improvement to win on his handicap debut from this mark, but can't rule that out.

Improving with each start and went close in a Wolverhampton novice event (1m½f, AW) last time. May have got in light on her handicap debut, but does have it to prove on soft ground. Interesting nonetheless.

Forecasts

Corncrake (3/1), Universal Effect (3/1), Motahassen (7/2), Dark Devil (6/1), Manfadh (8/1), So You Thought (8/1), Our Rodney (16/1), Duck Egg Blue (20/1), Lizzie Loch (25/1)

Verdict

Duck Egg Blue would be interesting if supported now dropping slightly in grade, while Manfadh is back on a winning mark so can't be dismissed. Universal Effect is an improving filly who could have a say, but the suggestion is MOTAHASSEN, who won relishes these conditions and remains on a competitive mark.

  3. Manfadh
