April Beverley winner (5f, gd/firm) who despite being a beaten odds-on favourite twice since has performed consistently; claimed after finishing a neck second (for Mick Channon) to Allhallowtide on the Westwood (5f, gd/soft) three weeks ago.
Won by a nose on debut at Wolverhampton (5f) and backed that up with a similar effort on turf at Lingfield (5f, gd/firm) recently; clearly has plenty of early pace and her trainer has his string in excellent form.
Son of Mayson; cost £22,000 as a juvenile; 10/1 when finishing last of seven to Makyon on debut here over 6f (soft); must do better under different conditions.
€10,000 yearling, €20,000 juvenile; first foal from an unraced dam who was a half-sister to the 7f-7½f winner Peak Princess; likely to find a few stronger.
Experienced Dandy Man filly who has showed up reasonably well on all three starts; made them all go at Newcastle (5f) latest before tying up deep inside the final furlong to finish approximately 1½L third to Mrs Bouquet.
€20,000 yearling; sent off 11/4f on debut in a 6f fillies' novice auction stakes at Pontefract (gd/soft) last week, and was only reeled in late by the Richard Fahey-trained newcomer Oti Ma Boati; obvious chance of going one better over 5f.
€9,000 juvenile; fifth foal from a 5f-6f winning dam (Poppy's Rose); sister to the 5f AW juvenile winner Offline and a half-sister to the 7½f winner Bert Leaf; rates as the pick of the two newcomers.
Forecasts
Hidden Spell (13/8), Dandizette (10/3), Probable Cause (7/2), Birkenhead (4/1), Teenar (28/1), Auckland Lodge (28/1), Rose Bandit (33/1)
An interesting opener which will almost certainly be fast and furious with a plethora of front runners in the line up, which include the consistent Birkenhead, the hardy Dandizette and the Wolverhampton debut winner Probable Cause who represents the bang-in-form Archie Watson yard. However, the horse to side with is the Karl Burke-trained HIDDEN SPELL. She was a shade unfortunate not to make a winning debut at Pontefract (6f) last week and should be suited by dropping back in trip. Hopefully she can strike at the second time of asking.
- Hidden Spell
- Probable Cause
- Dandizette
